I am not really into politics in my own country meaning that America politics is really out of the question in terms of me having any really knowledge on it.

However my friend pointed this out to me and it sounds a bit weird. What do you all make of this?

Article One:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/24/sarah-palins-pac-puts-gun_n_511433.html

Quote:
Sarah Palin's PAC Puts Gun Sights On Democrats She's Targeting In 2010
Sarah Palin is targeting -- yes, with gun sights -- House Democrats facing tough reelection fights who voted for health care reform.

Palin's Facebook page now carries a map featuring 20 gun sights, one for each of the Democrats targeted this year by her political action committee SarahPAC. Three of the gun sights, those where incumbent Democrats have already announced their retirement, are colored red.

See the whole article for list of targets.

THEN

Article two:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/08/gabrielle-giffords-shot-c_n_806211.html

Quote:
Gabrielle Giffords Shot: Congresswoman Shot In Arizona (LIVE UPDATES)
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head Saturday and an unknown number of others were wounded when an assailant opened fire in an area where the lawmaker was meeting with constituents, officials said.

There were varying accounts on Giffords' condition, but a hospital spokesman said the Democrat was in critical condition. An aide to the Democrat was killed. An unknown number of others was injured, officials officials said, including additional aides to the lawmaker.

Tl;dr Palin creates a list of targets, one of targets gets shot...

Wow, haven't seen that targeting map before. I can't say I'm suprised. Some people are insane.

Things like this infuriate me. This poor woman was shot in the head not very long ago and people are already exploiting this tragedy. Her district was targeted with a cross-hair on a map made by conservatives! Its a coincidence! Fuck the Huffington Post, I don't think there is any low they won't stoop to.

I don't see the HP linking these 2 events together in a major story.

What is worse is Fox News hate machine that burns 24-7. I swear if you watch that show long enough you will start thinking the government is coming to your home to steal your gold, your bible and your guns and then beat you to death with your child. Funny how when I watched that channel several years back everything was great and it was un-American to question your Government no matter what crazy shit they did. People like Glenn Beck and Keith Olberman should be raped live on national tv and then fired, and then replaced with real news men like fucking Tom Browka or Ron Burgendy.

How would raping them be any better than what they do? Confused

She puts people who are known to be about to retire so she can look successful. It's all a gimmick, but surprising what's being used.

Don't get me wrong here.

The articles aren't linked as Sarge has already said.

I am not even claiming that they are both linked.

It's just a bit weird.

Yea man, it is weird. I hope the other Democrats on the list take extra precautions, because I think Sarah Palin may have given them the kiss of death.

It's a shame. When I worked for the party, I had the pleasure to meet Giffords, and she seemed like a such a sweet, yet determined person, and it's a shame what happened to her , the inured, and especially terrible for the others who died.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Well its not like the huffington post is the only media related site saying it.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jan/09/gabrielle-giffords-critical-condition-shooting-arizona

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12145076

Both reputable media sources and they both comment on the relationship between the "gun map" and the shooting.

Yes, and notice in both articles there seems to be more emphasis on the relationship between the "gun map" and the shooting, than details about the shooter himself. If I was reading it and didn't know any better, I'd be convinced that this shooting was perpetrated by one of Sarah Palin's minions. From what we know about the shooter since this happened, its safe to bet this guy wasn't on Team Mama Grizzly.

Whether or not it was crosshairs on map is even debatable. Here is the map.

Image

Image

And even if it is, gun maps are common in politics. Here is one from the Democratic Leadership Committee in 2004.

Image

And another earlier this year from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) website.

Image

So its meaningless, and the people trying to politicize this event should be ashamed.

Definitely an unfortunate incident, one of the first political assassination attempts I've seen in the US in a very long time.

I've heard conflicting stories, I know she's alive and in serious/extreme condition, but is she going to be a vegetable, and where did she get shot in the head where it wouldn't be fatal?

It might've just taken out a chunk of her skull or eliminated a very small piece of brain. Either way, it's kind of shocking, especially with the other crazy stuff that's been going on down here.

In the end I believe Palin choice of words and imagery but certainly weren't intended as an incite to violence.

Having said that the comment section on Palin's facebook is horrifying.

Can I lock this thread then? You created a thread saying "Look at this...okay now look at this." If they aren't related, there's no need for the thread to exist.

I think the thread should stay open so we can discuss the shooting.

When I heard it took place in Tucson, I was reminded of my aunt who served as a Dem state senator there.

I already was pretty sick and tired of them, but now that I know they hate Catholics, it's totally on. I wish I could go, but it's a little too far.

They hate pretty much everyone. They're good at pretending to be Christians, though. I'm not going to go down there, my wife cooled me off a little, but seriously, the media needs to just stop covering them and fueling their insanity-fire.
