No clue why, so I'll just start naming games and asking for your opinion on them.
First up: Turbo Outrun. I'm using Turbo because it's my favorite of the series, despite it's more linear nature. That, and it was one of the first arcade machines I ever played.

Syd? I'm asking for your opinion here.
Doesn't have to be a review, just a few sentences will do fine.
Or did I inspire you to go play it somehow?

Might be bad timing... Not that anything is going on in the world right now or anything.
Sometimes "a few sentences" can take a couple of years to accomplish.

Indeed.
This list I have is gonna be wildly varied, by the way. It's not gonna be just Outrun clones.

what is the point of this thread? If it's already established that Syd thinks racing games are garbage, then why even bother trying to test it? he's only going to shut every game down anyways,it's a waste of time.

...he said he didn't like stuff like Pole Position/Rad Racer. I've never gotten his opinion on the stuff with a little more depth than just "Go Fast and Don't hit things".

I have nothing against Sega's Outrun series. Those games are pretty fun.

What about stuff like Mario Kart Double Dash, F-Zero GX, and Burnout Revenge?

I love burnout revenge, and was going to say somthign about it, but I think it falls into the "go fast and don't hit shit" genre.

Actually, I thought it fell into the "Go fast and hit everything exept trucks, buses, and buildings" category.

maybe it's in the "go fast and hit everythign except trucks, buses, and buildings to get boost to go faster without hitting trucks, busses, and buildings" category.
you ever play burnout 3? much more fun.

I hate any racing game where there's a timer, and you have to reach checkpoints to keep going.
That's what sucked about Rad Racer.

I have played Burnout 3. I liked Revenge better.
Let me guess: "Fuck Revenge!"

Racing games normally suck. Exceptions are ones with gimicky things such as:
Mario Kart
Burnout
F-Zero (the gimick being that it's fucking impossible; the GCN one anyway)
I don't minid the occasional generic racing game like Cruisin' World or something if you're actually in the car in an arcade, but with a controller they're crap

I like the Mario Kart games, and I was a fan of Rad Racer. I liked Cruisin' USA too for some reason.
I actually even played some of the Sierra/Papyrus NASCAR Racing games in the past and they were a lot of fun too.

My favorite PC racing game was Mega Race, which Spanky got in a free software package with his first computer.

actaully I like that game too, it's jsut alot different than three. they're almost two completely different games because of the way the cars handle and the fact that revenge lets you smack into traffic without consequence as long as it's not oncoming.
in 3 you can't rear end or head on anything except other racers without crashing. it made high speed races and the like much more intense. I also noticed revenge gets kind of buggy, considering it was such a rush job, but that's usually not an issue.
in closing, revenge and burnout 3 are both excellent games, and you should own the m both for differnet reasons, but if I had to choose one and only one, I would pick 3.
also, jeebus, just because you suck at F-Zero doesn't mean it's impossible.

Among some of the others mentioned, I enjoyed the Top Gear series for SNES and the Gran Turismo series for the Sony platforms. Basically anything with decent gameplay where you can win money and beef up your car(s). Not too mention I loved the Road Rash series for the Genesis.

The San Francisco Rush series rules! Except for that new one. I seriously think that Burnout is the spiritual successor to San Francisco Rush.

The Road Rash games were one of my favorite things about the Genesis. I just wish I was able to beat one of them when I was a kid.
