Ok, I'm a huge fan of Haloween, as I love a good horror Flick, and Fall is my favorite time of year as the weather out here is perfect. Every year I compile a list of movies that I watch the couple weeks before Haloween. Here is what I have planned so far for this year, but I will be checking back here and if you guys mention anything of interest, I will add it to my list.

1. Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. Ultimately pretty corny, but at least to me, I consider one of the last 80's style horror movies. Released in 1995

2. Nightmare on Elm Street (first one) Classic 80's horror. That is all.

3. Friday the 13th part 8. Jason takes Manhattan. This is an admittedly bad movie, but was the first in the series I saw, at a friends house (my mom didn't let me watch rated R movies) so it has a special place in my heart.

4. Nosforatu. The German silent film to this day is still visually one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen.

5. Dead Alive. Peter Jackson's 1992 zombie movie. I love a good zombie flick, but with the recent popularity of the zombie, the whole thing is getting tired. Still, the classics should be recognized, and to this day this is one of the most gory movies I've ever seen.

6. The Exorcist. Again, this theme is gaining popularity in recent cinema, but nothing beats the original.

7. Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The original. Something about the film used in the 70's adds to the creepiness.

8. Brahm Stokers Dracula. Love this movie. Keanu is so sorely out of place in this movie, but I love the atmosphere and the fact all of the special effects were done on set.

That is all I will list for now. Tell me what you like to watch for Halloween, or your favorite horror flicks. Most of these flicks are pretty mainstream, so if you guys have some material that I may not have heard of, by all means post it here!

Yes! I was going to put Hellraiser on my list, but to be honest, I got tired of typing and left the list short at 8. I agree the first two Hellraisers were excellent!

2001 Maniacs - A great southern horror movie

I also recommend Child's Play 2, Halloween 2, Alien, and there was this Sci Fi movie with an evil tiki running around on an island that was pretty good too.

haha. I haven't heard of 2001 Maniacs.. I will have to check youtube to get a synopsis and potentially add it to my list. The other suggestions are pretty good, though for some reason, I never really got into the Child's Play movies... Though that episode of the Twilight Zone where the kids doll harasses the dad used to creep me the fuck out.

Idiocracy. There's nothing more terrifying than a movie that can acurately predict how humanity's getting dumber by the generation, and--

--Wait, what you mean it's not a horror movie!? Shocked

In all seriousness, been ages since I've seen a good horror movie.

So the only things that comes to mind at the time being would be The Exorcist and The Ring (Japanese version).

Mentioning Nosferatu, I'm reminded of the awesome Shadow of the Vampire with John Malkovich as the director of the first film, using a real vampire to play Count Orso.

Also, Old Boy gets a mention, that movie is just sick.

You know, I've never seen Shadow of the Vampire, and I really have been interested in seeing it for a long time. It's just one of those slips my mind movies when im on netflix or at the video store. It's on my list now, thanks Sath. Also, Old Boy is fantastic and definitely more fucked up than all of the horror movies mentioned in here, but I've seen it a million times, and to me, isn't a "Halloween" type horror movie.

Also, another suggestion if you're into the cheese horror flicks: Troma's Redneck Zombies. One of the most terrible films I've ever seen, but pretty funny and I swear i think they use real pig innards for the gore scenes.

Nightmare on Elm Street and Hellraiser series for me. I also really love the Saw movies and saw a great horror anthology movie last year called Trick r' Treat that was really good. I definitely recommend you guys check that one out.

Speaking of anthologies, about half of the episodes of Masters of Horror are great Halloween fare. The other half suck hardcore. I would recommend Stuart Gordon's version of Dreams in the Witch House, John Carpenter's Cigarette Burns, Bug Girl, Deer Woman, Incident on and off a mountain road, and the one with the dueling serial killers, just watched it last night but can't remember the name. Avoid the one with US soldiers coming back as zombies (way too preachy), Jennifer, and Haeckel's Tale because they're awful as crap.

On the topic of Masters Of Horror, I really enjoyed the second episode of the second season titled Family. It was, in my opinion, the best episode of the series that I have seen yet!

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, but I saw Season of the Witch when I was fairly young and it scared the piss out of me. It's not Halloween per se, but still scary, at least I think.

The Shining was always a great movie. Eerie sense of direction, and Jack Nicholson owns that role.

"Dead Alive" is awesome. I'm also going to submit that scene from Superman 3, in which the lady gets sucked into the computer and becomes a robot. It used to scare the shit out of me. I saw it again the other day on HBO or somethng. I still hate it.

I hate horror movies in general. Don't understand why people enjoy being scared so much.

That having been said, just hearing the name 'House on Haunted Hill' scares the piss out of me. For some weird reason, things that are far away and suddenly get closer in a second scare the bejesus out of me.

I'm looking at you, Ninja Cat.

This.

Also, Let the Right One In was pretty decent, (the foreign one) we watched that last night. Most realistic vampire movie I've seen before. I dug it.

Jacob's Ladder is pretty cool. I the ending was kind of eh, but it had some intense scenes and was kind of eerie.

Ernest Scared Stupid scared the shit out of me when I was younger.

Friday the 13th part 3 is one of my favorite horror films of all time, but Ive seen it way too much recently so I probably wont watch it again for a while.
