From joystiq.com:

"The rumors that Metal Gear Solid 4 is not a PS3 exclusive continue to snowball. A little over a month ago came the first wave of speculation and the idea even graced the cover of EGM. Fanboys screamed and raged, "Kojima-san owes way too much to Sony to stab them in the back like this, his honour would be tarnished forever and the Japanese care deeply about their honour." Konami's PR simply said, "Metal Gear 4 [sic] is a PS3 title."

Now website Noooz states they have "exclusive" information that MGS4 is coming to Xbox 360. We spoke directly with the editor of Noooz, Daniel Boutros, who has been around the industry for a good bit. He says his source for the information is quite high up, "I rarely run with anything unless I'm 100% confident. I rarely break news stories as you can see." He jokes that from now on he's sticking to opinion pieces after the storm of comments his site received.

Boutros' source says that MGS4 will be coming to the Xbox 360 shortly after the PS3 release. The source says Konami is concerned that there will still not be enough PS3 units out there to make the game profitable. This is the same rationale being used by many publishers, including Ubisoft, to jump off the exclusive bandwagon. Somebody has to pay the bills and the wider the net, the more money publishers will make. We, along with probably everyone else, will be following up with Konami and Microsoft for comment tomorrow. This story isn't going away until somebody sneaks up on it from behind, chokes it senseless and drags it into a storage locker."

Good. A game should only be exclusive if it's produced in-house. Companies like Capcom, Sega, Midway, and Konami shouldn't be doing exclusive games. I was ripshit when Shaolin Monks didn't get a GCN release.

I think if a game is made specifically to take advantage of a system's strengths, then it should be exclusive.

actually, who the fuck thought it would be a good idea to port capcom vs snk 2 to gamecube? theres no way to sucessfully play it on that controller.

I don't care if games only come out on only one console, as long as they come out on PC! I am still beyond pissed that Call Of Duty 3 is only for consoles, especially since COD was a PC game to begin with!

Also, with PC games you can change the controls to suit your tastes. Keyboard, mouse, joystick, gamepad, whatever. Graphics on consoles can't touch PC, they may be awe inspiring when the system launches, but a month later PC hardware has surpassed the new consoles abilities.

And, now that consoles are coming out for $400 - $600, you might as well invest in a PC, so that way you have more to show for your money, and can use your "gaming device" for a lot more than gaming.

Ooooh.. The Wii has old games from NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, and TG-16! Wow, my computer has had them for years, plus Arcade games, Playstion, Dreamcast, Amiga 500/1000/2000/3000/4000/CD32, C64, Atari 800/2600/5200/7800/ST, Intellivision, Colecovision, and a god damn calculator!

Also, one a games goes gold on a console, if something is broke in the game, your fucked, unless the company wants to do a recall. You can patch PC games!

Okay. I am sooooo done ranting now.

The only game I have for it Metal Gear 2, so it's not so much a MSX emulator for me, as it is a Metal Gear 2 emulator. Razz

That breeds sloppiness and laziness though. With a console game, companies have to work harder to make sure that the game is working properly before releasing it. With PC games, you often seem games rushed out despite massive bugs because "Hey, we can have a patch ready by the time it hits shelves."

Fuck that. If your product isn't finished, don't fucking release it.

Also, there have been patches available for XBox games via XBox Live.

All I know is, I love my "Resident Evil 4" for the PS2 and if MGS4 comes out on the 360, I'll be hanging out at my brother-in-law's place more often.

I don't think "exclusive" and "honor" go together either. Whoever said, "his honour would be tarnished forever and the Japanese care deeply about their honour" is a racist and a crybaby. That's not what "honor" is all about.

There is another strong advantage to PC games, other that patches, along the same lines... MODDING!

There have been some awesome mods that have been created for various games over the years. The most famous example would be Counterstrike, which was a mod to Half Life, made by two guys in their spare time, and became a worldwide hit.

There's is not too many Console gamers out there who own Dev kits, so no expanded playability unless the developer releases an add-on... Oh wait, you can do add-ons on a console! (X-box excluded, since they had the Halo Map Pack. But then again we are talking about a direct X running computer in a little box here.)

Games like Neverwinter Nights, Half Life, Doom, and others would never had been as successful if they were console-only games.

Maybe I just get mad at consoles because they ruin good game series. Like Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six. They were awesome tatical shooters until console systems got their hands on them. "We don't want slow, realistic, tatical assualt games! We want to bunny hop around maps with 16 guns and a rocket launcher! WAAA!!!" And, so after they sold well on the consoles, the series became console games ported to the PC, which were horribly dumbed down from their deep strategic roots.

Rainbow Six:Raven Shield = Awesome.
Rainbox Six:Lockdown = Dumbed down piece of crap.

Ghost Recon = Awesome
Ghost Recon Adavanced Warfighter = A very shiny and pretty dumbed down piece of crap.

Wow, some random fags online are lying / speculating about a game, while the company has already answered the question and flatly denied that there will be a port. Good game idiots.

Yeah, because that's really the philosophy. That may be some dipshit slacker's excuse, but if a game is honestly rushed to be shipped and is nearly broken and a patch makes it one of the best games ever, I'd say that's more than acceptable. Just look at Vampire: Bloodlines. Bloodlines is one of the best FPS rpg's I've ever played, but it's nearly unplayable without the FAN MADE patch (Troika games went under shortly after releasing the game in a barely finished state, so fans had to make patches...lolz). Basically, yeah, it can facilitate laziness, but overall releasing a slightly imperfect game then patching it is totally acceptable. Or, in Bloodlines' case, releasing an awesome but broken game, then having it be patched by fans, is okay too.

Oh, you mean Halo 2? I hate that game.

Speaking of Raven Shield, you wanna play some? I got it installed recently and I have two friends who I play on Hamachi with regularly.

Bloodlines worked well enough for me with troika's patch and without it.

If you like Troika's work, you should play Arcanum. Best RPG I've ever played (but take that with a grain of salt, because I'm not a big RPGer). Regardless, the storyline and dialogue is unbelievably good.

Halo would have still been successful, as it pretty much launched console online gaming. In fact, I would argue that Halo is only successful because of console gaming. Without the draw of Xbox Live, Halo is just a generic FPS that can't hold a candle to Deus Ex, Unreal, Quake, or Half Life. Or Turok, for that matter. There, I said it. Halo is worse than Turok.

Neverwinter Nights and Doom wouldn't have though, as they were designed to take advantage of PC hardware that was superior to the consoles of the time. And it was the PC online community that really Doom as big as it was. The first episode of the game was released as shareware and it spread by word of mouth, much like its predecessor, Wolfenstein 3D did.

Halo is pretty awesome on the Xbox. On the PC. . .meh, I have Half-Life.

Also, Knyte, I liked Lockdown, but I didn't compare it to the other Rainbow Six games. I do agree with you on the GR/GRAW issue, at least for the Playstation. I haven't played it for the 360.

Half-Life had some of the greatest mods ever made though... Counter-Strike for one. And my personal favorite, Team Fortress Classic.

There's no official MGS4 thread, so I'll just bump this old one.

David Hayter was on the Kojima podcast today doing an interview. For those fans of his, it's worth checking out.

God-damn this is a tough situation. I have Wii, but I'm going to get another one along with it. Either PS3 or XBOX360. And MGS4 pretty much depends on final decision.

Goddam I hate podcasts. Why the fuck would I want to listen to something that I could read in a fraction of the time if it was in print? Someone want to give me a brief summary of what was said?

I argue that you should listen to it because David Hayter does the Snake voice, which is always cool.

But I'll write up a synopsis later in the day (or weekend).
