One in 20 of us will engage in a sweaty workout today

Here's a statistic in support of the U.S. obesity epidemic: Only 5% of Americans exercise vigorously on any given day.
That's the conclusion of a study by researchers at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, La. They analyzed data from about 80,000 Americans participating in the American Time Use Survey and found that while almost 80% engaged in light activities, such as driving a car or getting dressed, most did not engage in moderate or vigorous activity on any given day. Just more than 10% reported lawn, garden or houseplant care and only 2.2% reported using exercise equipment and 1.1% running. The most common, non-work, non-sleeping activity reported was eating and drinking.
The authors note that between 78% and 88% of American workers are employed in sedentary occupations. And, given that health experts recommend at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity activity it seems we have room to improve.
Lets see what percentage of SydLexian's did a sweaty workout today.

I probably exert myself to the point I sweat once every three or four months, or so. I walk about fifteen kilometres a day, most days, though.

I did! Which is funny, actually, I've gained 5 pounds over the last 1.5 months, so I decided yesterday I was going to do 100 sit-ups everyday. So this morning, I did 100 sit-ups before I showered.
So if you had asked yesterday, the answer would have been no.
When I work, is that considered exercise? If so, I work out at least 4 times a week.

What do you do for a job?
I mean, I sit a computer, that doesn't count. Working out and martial arts are where my exercise comes from.

You need a maybe button. I just got a gym membership on Friday, and so far, I've gone every day. But we'll see how well I keep it going. I've noticed my 5 years working at a computer has really taken a toll on my health weight wise and just in general. Thing is, it's a creeper when you switch from an active job to desk job as you don't gain the weight quickly. I used to be in, well not marathon shape, or body builder shape, but I was pretty well rounded.

I'm a truck unloader. I always work myself into a sweat. As far as I'm concerned, if you haul a palet of water from one side of Wal-Mart to the other nearly every day, thats a workout in my book.

3.5 miles every night. And by night, I mean like 3 am.
I very often go out for a walk in the early morning hours. Last week I went to a twenty-four hour McDonald's at 2 AM, but they were only serving people with cars, so I wasted my hour walking there and back. It was extra lame, too, because I was dressed for late summer, and it was negative two out, that night (Twenty-eight point four degrees Fahrenheit). But on the bright side, that means it's almost winter! Woo!

Fifty sit ups every morning, and fifty sit ups before bed. Also, a one hour jog 4 times a week.

When do you sleep?
Walk. And not sure when you mean. What's sleep?
It's what you do during the daytime when you've finished your jog/hunt for human blood

I would say that counts. I have been doing the same job for almost two months now and it is a good workout. I usually decline help in hauling the heavy pallets because then it isn't a workout to me.

I don't exercise. I know I should, but I don't. It's nice to see everyone here is so fit and worried about their health, you'll live longer.

I did 20 minutes of the Cam Dance today, which is the ultimate workout and dance all combined into one. It's super cool, too, the ladies dig it.

I have been perfecting the Cam myself. Last night I was a little shaky at it, but with some practice today I've got it down. Great workout, and a fantastic time.
Were you sure to perform the Cam dance to the proper song?
I sure did! I was telling Fig that I added my own little flair to it by doing it on my bed and reaching my arms straight out over the edge and pretend I'm flying like Superman! Hahahaha!

Working in culinary has actually reduced my weight from 250 in high school to 170 now. Every day can be a different chore, whether it's hauling boxes, platters, or racks of food around, running throughout the hotel, sweating my ass off in front of a grill for a few hours, etc. It doesn't hurt having a constantly-stocked coffee station right next to my work station either. The bad part is that at the end of the day, I can't reach over to my right side without getting a painful cramp. Hopefully I can get some health insurance soon so I can go to the chiropractor.
So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.
