With the recent resurgence in fighting games and since there appears to be a lot of fighting fans here, I was wondering if there might be any interest in holding some sort of competition akin to the NES/SNES challenge.
The major logistics I can forsee are:
1. Agreeing on a console
2. Agreeing on a game
3. Scheduling the matches.
I'd say a vote or a poll to determine which console/game and start going from there. My vote would be for SSF4/Tekken 6 on 360.

Console must be either 360 or Wii, as those are what I have. And without me, it's not a SydLexia.com fighting competition. I've been looking for an excuse to crack out Soul Calibur 4 or Tekken 6 again... how about one of them?

Both of them should be fairly cheap now. For awhile, Wal-Mart was clearing out inventory and Tekken 6 was only $10. SC4 is what, two or more years old now, so it shouldn't be that much either.

I would love to join in, but there is a problem: My 360 is currently broken, My Wii has no fighting games save Smash (I don't think Guilty Gear is Online), and I only have 2 Fighting games for my PS3 (Blazblue Continuum Shift and Marvel VS Capcom 2). I have all the other big fighting games for my 360 except for Tekken.

I'm inthe process of moving in, then I'm down for anything on the 360.
I have super street fighter 4, soul calibur 4, battle fantasia, soul calibur (dlc), fatal fury motw, super street fighter 2 HD remix, Virtua fighter 5, dead or alive 4, marvel vs capcom 2, and other games that I can't remember.
I'm planning to buy mk vs dc and tekken 6 again eventually, depending on when we are doing this. Also, I'm buying an arcade stick soon, and that comes with a free copy of street fighter 4, although I don't know why we would want to play that instead of super.
Until I move and sell the wii I have tmnt smash up and tatsunoko vs capcom. I'd love to play tvc with someone, but the wii online I laggy as shit.
I would REALLY like to have a mvc2, ssfiv, or sciv tournament though.

I only have SSFIV and SCIV for the PS3, so I am in if it ends up being one of those.

I'll go get SCIV for X360, however I haven't played a Soul Calibur game since the original on DC.

I only have a 360, but would happily run brackets and such for whatever game is decided upon. I have SSF4, BB:CS, Tekken 6, New KoF, DoA 4, Samurai Showdown II and Garou: Mark of the Wolves and would/could easily pick up SCIV.
Depending on the system split, it'd be possible to run both a 360 event and a PS3 event, although somebody else would have to assist on the PS3 side since I don't own one.
I figured a double elimination bracket would be the best way to run it, but if anyone has any better suggestions, I'm open to them.
Edit: also have MvC2. Totally forgot about that one.

I only have a PS3 but either way, I currently don't have a TV. I may eventually break down and buy one but my cable runs through my computer and I watch TV on there so it's not a pressing issue.

All I suggest is that if we play sciv, we play with specific conditions.
equipment effects disabled.
200% health.
150% soul gauge.
Two rounds.
No yoda.
Created souls and edited costumes are fine, as long as equipment effects are disabled.

I think every character except Yoda should be banned.

The weapons effect would definitely be disabled. I can only imagine the chaos that would cause. Explain your reasoning behind the rest please? I'm an SC noob, so some insight would be appreciated.

The fights end too quickly without the extended life and soul gauge. It becomes more about doing damage as fast as possible and less about timing and thinking. Soul gauge at 200% is too much, though. You'd never see a crutial finish (not that I use them anyway, but some people do).
Two rounds are needed because three is too long and drawn out with the extended life, and you don't have enough time to feel the opponent out and learn their openings in one round. We could do three rounds, I suppose, though.
No yoda because while he isn't nessecarily "cheap" he does have special rules that only apply to him, such as immunity to throws, and most attacks going over his head. Characters really can't play at their best against him, and matches often turn into finding a few safe moves to use against him, and using them in alternation.

Aw... see, 200% health doesn't work for me. I only like Soul Calibur when I can score a semi-accidental victory with a couple of luckily timed high damage moves. I don't actually know how to play.

I used to have alot of fun playing brawl with syd and my pal Heath. It only seemed to lag like thirty percent of the time. It was nice.

Yeah, we had pretty good luck with Brawl. I imagine Brawl would be even less laggy now since it's less shiny now and there's probably less strain on the servers.

I'd be good with playing Brawl again, been a while since I played as long as no one plays a nooby Meta Knight or Ike all the time. Those guys are disgustingly annoying in laggy free-for-alls. I also have MvC2, Garou, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, and KoF98UM on XBLA though I have no Gold to speak of to play anybody.
