I'm on a Mortal Kombat Kick so I figured I'd ask What's the best version of the best MK? that being Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

The Arcade lacks rain but includes everyone else but is missing some MK3 stages

The SNES and Genesis have Rain but no Sheeva and are missing a TON of options but there are new moves like brutalities.

the GBA Port misses even more features

The Saturn Port is arcade perfect but unlocked Characters can't be saved

The XBOX live port is no longer available, will fuck up your gamer score and like the saturn you can't save unlocked characters.

The Saturn Version adds back some MK3 levels not in the arcade and gives Shang Tsung a new Morph for Human Smoke and new Kombat Kodes and there are load times for fatalities.

The PS2 port has no saves

The DS is wifi enabled and includes puzzle Kombat.

Seems the DS port might be the winner...but the Dpad....

I say the Arcade version in MAME

Fuck MK3 and it's bullshit rubberband AI. I loved how you could win one round doing nothing by jump kicks and then the computer proceeds to go absolutely apeshit in the next, countering everything you do before you even do it. MKII will always be the pinnacle of the series imo. That being said, I did kind of like Mortal Kombat Trilogy on N64.

MK Trilogy on the N64 is light years better than any UMK3.

I second MK Trilogy. It's all you could ever want from the three original MK games.

This! I play this and Soul Calibur on Dreamcast with my friends more than any modern game, probably.

Yeah the Problemn with MK Trilogy is the PS1 version isn't emulatable and is one of very few games not PS2 compatable. If I could get a Saturn Emulator working though....

That said I DO have the n64 version of Trilogy but it's missing a few features.

MK may not be the best or deepest fighter ever but the storyline and characters are legendary

MK3 on DS sucks, fatalities are displayed on other screen... LAME, also moves are nearly impossible to pull off with dpad

Isn't UMK 3 the one without Johnny Cage?

Fuck that noise!

Thirded, but of the Ultimate MK3's I'd pick the DS port, as its only downside is a krappy D-Pad. Plus it has PUZZLE KOMBAT!!!

Of allthe Mortal Kombats, I'd say Deception is my favorite. Armageddon would have won, but they simplified everybodies kombos and the kreate-a-fatality system is worse than gutter trash.

And why was the Live port taken down? I almost downloaded it a while back, but I changed my mind.

Not to mention that everybody lost a fighting style.

It's missing Goro and Kintaro, and it replaces Chameleon with Khameleon, other than that it's not really missing anything other than some shitty filler characters. It actually has some nice extras that other versions don't have. There's a super secret endurance mode, Kahn and Motaro have fatalities, and you can do 3 on 3 battles. Also, no loading times!

Loading times are a major reason I loved every N64 port over PS1 ports. That and I wanna leg hump Nintendo, but this is neither the time or place to talk about THAT.

When talking with friends, I use to give this as one reason I preferred N64 to Playstation...load times. They would just call me an asshole, but the fact that there was no load time was a big plus for me.

And, of course, it's Nintendo.

MK Mythologies had FMV movies on the Playstation, but they were gay and the load times were even gayer. The N64 version still reigns supreme.

Characters are pretty memorable though, at least the casts of MK1, MK2, and some of MK3.

i agree. the mythology behind the characters is great, but the actual storyline of any MK game is dumb.

i guess you can say that about any fighting game really.

Whenever someone isn't in the latest iteration of Mortal Kombat, it's because they're dead. That's not to say they won't be resurrected by the next game though, or in the case of Raiden and MK:Deception, as an unlockable character. Why does it always have to be SHANG TSUNG IS DEAD or JOHNNY CAGE IS DEAD, though? Why can't it ever be SHANG TSUNG IS BATTLING CRIPPLING DEPRESSION AFTER HIS LATEST DEFEAT or JOHNNY CAGE IS SNORTING COKE ON THE SET OF HIS NEW MOVIE?

or Raiden died while taking a dip in the hot tub?

or Liu Kang ate some bad fugu?

or Kung Lao chopped off his fingers and bled to death because of his razor sharp hat?

or Jax was sent to jail because of racist white cops? actually, he's a cop. nevermind.

I guess that whole thing about the fate of the entire world resting on the shoulders of these mortal kombatants makes figthing a little more important than indigestion.
