http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/2889266/Doctor-Who-is-made-into-a-computer-game-for-the-Wii.html

Annoyingly it's going to involve the Matt Smith incarnation (the one that's younger than I).

The Sun wrote:
DOCTOR Who is to regenerate into Doctor Wii after BBC bosses signed a mega-bucks computer game deal.

Nintendo has agreed a contract said to be worth over £10million to create the much-anticipated game for its popular Wii and DS consoles.

And the firm is planning to get it into shops in time for the lucrative Christmas market.

The game is at the early stages but is set to be based around the new Doctor, played by Matt Smith.

It will also feature key Doctor Who baddies including the Daleks, the Cybermen and the Silurians.

An insider said: "This has been in the pipeline for years.

"We're delighted to have finally nailed down a deal. We went with Nintendo as they have huge appeal for families and Doctor Who is very much a family brand.

"The Wii console is key for us as it's something families play together."

The game will be closely monitored by the BBC, which does not want anything too violent.

Former Doctor David Tennant said the game had struggled to get off the ground as some developers had wanted the Time Lord to beat up his enemies and blow things up.

Who chiefs prefer the Doc to defeat baddies using his cunning rather than his fists.

David said: "The video game was quite actively developed, but it's difficult to nail as the Doctor doesn't blow things up.

He's not Batman, who goes around smacking people in the head."

Firms had been coming up with ideas for the last three years in a bid to tap into the show's success.

The insider added: "BBC Worldwide, which licenses BBC shows, has been trying to find some way of doing it.

"But you can't have Doctor Who blowing things to bits with a laser gun. That would massively change the nature of the show."

The BBC has made a fortune out of Doctor Who spin-offs - raking in around £100million."

Expect there to be riots if you don't involve the Wiimote to manipulate the sonic screwdriver in some manner.

Ok I will go ahead and call everyone who complains about using Matt Smith a complete fucking moron. Having a game featuring a previous doctor will take attention away from the new one. A game featuring multiple doctors would be nice, but if you only have one it should be the current one.

I actually hadn't considered that angle to the marketing of it. In that light it makes sense.

I would not complain about it having the new doctor if he weren't a giraffe. Seriously, the neck on that guy...
Also I am still super worried about A NEW, DARKER WHO.

I understand that. But it's frustrating. And the fact that David Tennant was interviewed for the article and talks about it being in developmental hell for years because developers didn't know how to handle it makes me sad, because it COULD have starred Tennant Who.

I am not saying someone is a moron for liking Tennant but getting mad over the current doctor not being the star of a Dr who game is moronic.

It's just strange there were no dr who games now there are two different games in production. I was curious if the pc game is the same as the wii one and the wii version might have gotten canceled but I can't find anything.

First Doctor Who Game Episode Leaks Out Early

The first episode of the BBC Doctor Who game has arrived three days ahead of its planned release date for PCs. Titled "City of the Daleks," the episode is available from the BBC Web site. MCV gives word that the Mac version has been pushed back until June 15. MCV also reports that this early release has not been publicized by the BBC because it's not the final release.

"We're testing the system with an almost-final version of 'City of Daleks' ahead of the official release date," said BBC executive producer Anwen Aspden. "The reaction so far has been overwhelming, but so far we're still investigating whether we should tweak certain elements up to release on 5th June. So whilst those who've downloaded and enjoyed it in its current iteration have the advantage of playing through it early, there may be some minor tweaks coming."

The statement also points out that they expect heavy server strain to hit after showing a launch trailer with the new episode of Doctor Who on Saturday. The BBC promises to send word if the final build is up before then, so fans can download it before the server is hit. In the meantime, if you don't mind playing a game that isn't finished, it's available.

http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/08/25/new-doctor-who-videogames-headed-to-nintendo-wii-and-ds/

The BBC's "Doctor Who: The Adventure Games" sees its third chapter released this Friday (and hopefully not long after abroad), but fans may already be pondering when they'll be able to get their next dose of DW gaming after the four-part saga concludes. The eleventh doctor's aloof time traveling nature may have rubbed off on Asylum Entertainment as they haven't announced a specific timeframe, but the good news is that two brand new "Doctor Who" titles are indeed on the way to both the Nintendo Wii and DS systems: "Doctor Who: Return to Earth" (Wii) and "Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth" (DS).

The new games mark the first console outing for the franchise since 2008's "Top Trumps: Doctor Who" on the PlayStation 2, Wii and DS. Like most "Who" games, however, it will debut in the UK and Australia first. Given the release of "The Adventure Games" in the US, it's hopeful that these titles could also come to the states.

Amazon UK currently lists the titles' pre-order release dates for October 29, which would only be possible via TARDIS, but hopefully more legit release info surfaces soon.

So is this Doctor Who game any good? Because there have been lots of Doctor Who games in the past and they were all terrible.

Any idea where I could go to purchase an import copy, as well as how long it would take to arrive in the states (ideally before Christmas)? Being an EU/AU-centric release I doubt Play-Asia would work in this case.

Play-Asia carries all regions, even North America. I've noticed this by browsing the sale pages.

How do you plan to play this game?
