Christ, this movie is either going to be awesome or terrible.
For one, this guy ALMOST ended up playing captain america.

Except, he's not. The last moment they pulled their heads out of their asses.

"From Deadline:
EXCLUSIVE: Marvel Studios and director Joe Johnston want to be really sure they’ve found the right actor to star in The First Avenger: Captain America.

Marvel has slightly expanded its search—adding actors that I’m told include Chris Evans, who already logged Marvel Comics superhero time as Johnny Storm/Human Torch in two Fantastic Four films. Of the original contenders, two are still in serious contention: Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy).

Hedlund was on Marvel’s original wish list but didn't test at first. Scheduling was cited, but I also heard his reps balked when Marvel informed them that the job would include options for 9 future films and a salary around $300,000.

It’s not going to work out for the other actors who tested: Chace Crawford (CW's Gossip Girl), John Krasinski (NBC's The Office), Scott Porter (NBC's Friday Night Lights), Michael Cassidy (CW's Privileged) or Patrick Flueger (Brothers).

I still say Neal McDonaugh would be the best Cap they could possibly get.

And buffer. Other than that, he would do. I do think it would behoove them to use someone lesser known, though.

Oh. My. God. I don't even care who plays Cap anymore. Why?

BECAUSE HUGO WEAVING IS PLAYING RED SKULL!

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/03/11/hugo-weaving-cast-as-red-skull-in-captain-america/

I officially cannot wait for this movie now. Also, the fact that they cast him gives me hope for whoever they choose to cast as Cap.

Well no. V counts as a hero. Kind of. Doesn't he?

He's a good actor. I'd rather it be him than someone who's not up for the role.

Fuck no! That guy was an ass! I was quite satisfied when his character died. Vendetta is one of those movies you either love or hate. I really hated it.

^ How in God's name did I forget Elrond? All in all, you're just another brick in the wall.

Thanks for correcting the oversight, User.

Hugo Weaving is grade A. That's a great casting job.

But I fear this movie is going to blow...and hard. I'm sure the costume is going to look silly, and I don't think any of this is going to translate well onto the big screen. I hope I am wrong (and I usually am, so...).

Captain American should be played by an unknown.

Don't forget he also played an Australian drag queen in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

As for the casting decision, I have no problem with this in the least.

Bugger, I forgot about that too. Mitzi is definitely a good guy. Girl. Guy. ...Whatever, a good person, anyway. Laughing

I read somewhere artist Alex Ross suggesting Jon Hamm because he should be a little older. Chris Evans already seems a done deal so it doesn't matter, but I think that would have been a solid choise. He looks the part.

^ I have never heard of the guy personally (or if I had I don't remember), but he sure looks the part. Just needs to bleach his hair and throw in some blue contacts.

Cap really does need to be a more mature guy. Evans will be okay, but...eh...

Oh well. Least I've got Hugo Weaving as Skull to be happy about. Very Happy

He's most known for Mad Men on AMC. Great show.
