Just out of curiousity since we were talking about it on another thread. I know a lot of people here like 4, 6, 7, and 10, so I'm just wondering what the official favorite FF of the site is. Try not to get confused and pick 2 if you mean 4 and 3 if you mean 6.

Gah...SO close between VI, IX and X for me...
If it was pure story, I'd vote for X, which (to me) is easily the most epic and interesting of them all. And VI has a great plot and great characters too. It's the LoTR or Odyssey of the Final Fantasy series (even, I'd go so far as to say, the JRPG genre.)
But neither of them can touch IX, I think. The characters are SO wonderful, and SO memorable and so...*individual.* The cast of VI all had great *backstories* but their characters weren't nearly as fleshed out or memorable as IX's.
IX's plot...not ground breaking, but it worked, and provided more than enough fabulous character moments to carry it along.
Therefore...IX.

IV by a landslide. My introduction into the series, and it's closest competitor is VII. The story is excellent, the characters memorable, and Golbez is the baddest main antagonist since since Ivan Drago. The music was superb, as well. 'Battle with the Four Fiends' is one of my favorite songs of all time.
I put the games I've played in order of preferance, Greatest to Least:
IV
VII
VI
II
I
V
X
VIII
III

Final Fantasy II Champion Edition was always my favorite. Until they nerfed the playable boss characters in the next game.

I love VII, but when the characters went emo-centric I gave up... VI is my favorite only because of the cast themselves and the twists just were great. I would have picked one, only because from a game that scared the shit out of my to a game I love, isn't an easy feat (same with Wolfenstein 3D)

Two was just terrible as to where the hell you were supposed to go. They just said "Wild Rose" then you immediately knew you had to got Fynn?

It's between VIII and I for me, but I have to give the edge to VIII. I've heard that people didn't like the junction system but I thought that was one of the things that made it really fun. I didn't think it made it too easy, though if you spent enough time collecting the right high level magics then forget about it, you're destroying everything. I always figured that you didn't have to do that if you didn't want to, and I've played it a few times with and without doing so. I really loved the story and the characters, they are so memorable in a good way in my eyes. Well, except you, Rinoa, you kinda sucked. Oh yeah, and I thought playing the triple triad card game in that game was amazingly fun.
As for FFI, what can I say, it was my one of the first games when I was a wee lad and to this day I still think it's awesome. Though back then I struggled to get past Garland...Didn't anyone else love the 84-page Explorer's Handbook, world and dungeon maps, not to mention the full-color monster chart? AWESOME!
I've said too much.

It was really pretty, but you LOSE EXPERIENCE WHEN YOU DIE. Also they expect you to find a party but everyone is either a high level or an eight year old Phillipino.

Everyone already knows my favorite is IX. It's great to see so much love for the game here though, I had no idea so many other people enjoyed it.

It certainly is.
I bought IX in a house clearance shop, i always go there to check out the boxes of old records as i'm a vinyl junkie and i usually always find something. Anyway i'm rifleing through the records, i look up, and on a shelf i see The Alien Trilogy on vhs and hiding underneath is a double ps1 case, so i pick it up and see it's a mint condition copy of ff9 so i say (shout) to the bloke behind the counter (((how much for this old game mate?))) he says (shouts back) (((3 quid (£3) and it's yours son))). As for the records i found one i wanted, it was a Johnny Cash 7'' for 50p. So for £3.50 i went home pretty happy.
