Live action/CG Speedy Gonzalez with George Lopez as the voice of Speedy.

No.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

They keep saying this is going to be a politically correct Speedy Gonzalez.

Knowing Hollywood's record, I'll bet they'll come up with a much worse stereotype.

That, or a very bland Speedy Gonzalez.

This is why I keep suggesting we march on Hollywood. It's only going to get worse if we don't.

First off...Speedy Gonzales sucks...in fact all the Looney Tunes from the very late 50's and 60's sucked.

George Lopez sucks too, even though his sitcom wasn't too bad...his standup, talk show and just about everything else he's done is god-awful.

This is one of the worst ideas I've heard for a movie ever.

My 12-year-old brother actually enjoys the George Lopez Show. I don't think there's anything wrong with the show, but I don't feel right with him liking it.

Lopez Tonight is one of the shittiest talk shows I've ever seen. He is not funny at all nor are the celebrities he invites onto the show.

Well this is obviously a kid's movie aimed at 4-10 year olds, so doesn't really apply to us. It's kind of weird for 20-30 year olds to get pissed at the prospect of just another silly kid's movie.

True, but that's what happens when you mess up with nostalgic material instead of, I dunno, NEW MATERIAL. *HINT HINT*

Any time you try to revamp an old serie, always expect the lashing from the generation that grew up with said serie.

Anyway, my previous statement that Hollywood will come up with a much worse stereotype stands; for all we know they'll turn Speedy Gonzalez into a chicano (SPECIALLY if it's George Lopez voicing him):

well, i thought speedy gonzalez was good when he showed up w/his cousin slowpoke rodriguez. i never thought those cartoons were god awful.

second, lopez sitcom wasnt too bad, but it wasnt that great that it lasted that long. either way, the girl on the show, the daughter, is fucking hot. as is the wife of lopez on the show. and his standup is not too bad. its probably funnier as a hispanic individual since i can relate.

and third, yeah, this movie sounds horrible

The thing is, if this is successful, what's going to stop us from a CG/live-action Bugs Bunny movie with Dane Cook?

Dane Cook, the karate of martial arts? Honestly, Speedy Gonzales wasn't that bad. Actually, I never really liked Bugs besides a few skits.

I don't buy the "ruining my childhood" routine so many people use with these movies. Transformers is perfectly preserved in cartoon form for me to enjoy whenever I want, I don't give a flying shit if they make a movie about it. Same goes with any cartoon. It just doesn't affect me in any way so I don't let myself get upset about it. This does look awful, but I'm not mad. I'm indifferent.

The thing is this though, even though it'll be targeted towards the stupidest kids alive, why not like someone else said...come up with something new? I mean the target audience is going to watch whatever you throw in front of them.

You just answered your own question. The target audience is going to watch whatever you throw in front of them, so why would they spend EXTRA time and effort into something they could slap together in a few months?

Does it really take a lot of effort to come up with guinea pig secret agents who dance sexually to the song "Milkshake"?

nah. nah man. awww nah.

see, if it was some sorta new pixar film or an entirely new concept, then fine, we're being irrational. but this is something that most of us have grown up with, loved, and now have fond memories of childhood because of.

this is like finding out that a friend of yours from grade school that you haven't seen in years became a transvestite hooker on a reality show.

I suppose people couldsay this about G.I.Joe or Transformers, which I defend all the time, but those movies weren't much different from the cartoons, and still tried to keep a lot of little easter eggs intact for fans. whereas this a complete overhaul. george lopez? seriously? is he the only mexican in hollywood or something?

Wait...how can it be politically correct and still be Speedy Gonzales? The whole PREMISE of the character was how much of a stereotype he was, and that was the only thing that made the cartoon even remotely entertaining. (Not the stereotype part in and of itself, but his accent WAS hilarious.)

I read somewhere that the stereotype was popular with Mexicans and they were upset when they tried to change him into something less relatable.

This is true. I think Atmanryu was the one who told me that.

I feel the same way. The movie's existence doesn't ruin your nostalgia or the sanctity of your animated hero because the animated shorts still exist. They're making the movie to appeal to a new generation of kids.

And Dodds, it is infinitely easier to just use an established IP to make a movie with, especially when they can just base the movie entirely off a particular episode. It removes any need for creativity or critical thought. They can just shit out the movie in record time and kids will gobble it up.

As you said, kids will watch any old shlock and love it, so why should they bust their asses making something original and good when they'll make the same amount of money just rehashing an old Looney Tunes episode.

Yes, I did.

Frankly, the only time I found Speedy racist was in his first appearance; hell, just look at him:

Image

He had a freakin' gold tooth back then!

And some more info concerning the movie from here:

Quote:
"Speedy's going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting, and he's a little too fast for what they do. He makes a mess of that. So he has to go out in the world to find what he's good at."

That path becomes clearer once Speedy befriends a gun-shy race-car driver.

...Are they going to turn Speedy Gonzales into Speed Racer? If that being the case...

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF--
