I tried this last year but maybe people will care this time around. So the idea is pick the winners of the Awards and whomever gets the most correct I will send them a $10 amazon Gift card. I'll be competing too but if I win whoever gets the next closest wins. Sound fun?

Wow, money sure speaks when you have 10 nominees for best movie...
And frankly, if Avatar wins best movie (seeing that District 9 and Up are also on the list), I have officially lost faith in humanity.

I expect anything but Inglourious Basterds to win, but honestly...it was the only GOOD movie I saw this year. I mean I liked Avatar and Hurt Locker was ok I guess, but Best Picture worthy? Hardly! I really wish some of the films from 2006 were put out this year instead like The Prestige, which wasn't even nominated back then.
Avatar is going to most likely win, which really sucks because the only thing it should win for is special effects and maybe music.

I think Avatar may be like Button, securing lots of Noms but not winning much.

You're not missing much...seriously the only movie I was surprised with how good it was was Inglourious Basterds, which I honestly thought was going to suck.
I haven't seen Up either, but from the previews I wasn't enthralled in any way, and I've grown beyond the Pixar movies...they haven't really been enjoyable since the first Toy Story.

No real money involved but I have my picks on the Hollywood Stock Exchange(hsx.com it is a free stock market game using movies and movie stars)
I just hope Avatar does not win best picture. I liked it and had a fun time watching it but I don't want a Titanic style repeat. I'm sure most of the technical awards will go to it but best picture, no. Of course I thought L.A. Confidential was a much better movie than Titanic and look how that turned out.
Best picture is most likely going to The Hurt Locker. I liked it a lot but I still enjoyed Inglourious Basterds even more and would love to see it take best picture. I'd love to see Quentin Tarantino get best director as well but the indicators are pointing at Kathryn Bigelow. I'd rather see her win than James Cameron though. However Quentin Tarantino has a knack for bringing out the best in nearly everyone he works with. If that doesn't qualify as best director I don't know what does.
Also Mélanie Laurent from Inglourious Basterds really got screwed in my opinion. Her first English speaking film and she does a great job yet does not get nominated. She should have been nominated for best actress. She probably wouldn't win but she should have been at least nominated.
I'm pretty sure Quentin Tarantino will win in the best original screenplay department.
I'm also fairly confident that Christoph Waltz will win for best supporting actor.
Sandra Bullock will most likely get best actress, but I'd like it to go to Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia. I had several cooking classes in middle school and high school and we watched many Julia Child shows during both and Meryl had it nailed. I love Sandra Bullock, I still kind of have a crush on her to this day, but Meryl's acting was as close to perfect as you can get for the role.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

Truth. I'm hoping for AT LEAST Best Picture and Best Director.

I'd like to point out that I'm 3 for 3 so far. Woot Hurt Locker.

I don't see the big deal with The Hurt Locker, sure it's current events...but that's about it. It doesn't strike me as some sort of movie that stands on the same level as a lot of other Best Pictures before. It's like Philidelphia, I mean it was good for a short time, but watching it now, it doesn't hold the same capacity. In my honest opinion, it's just not that great of a movie.

I really liked The Hurt Locker but I still think Inglourious Basterds had a better screenplay.

It's a movie that resonated with a lot of people serving this country. Inglorious Basterds was just a stereotypical, overly long suckfest.
