Occasionally I visit this old hippie-run comic book store down where some of my friends live. In this place they have big clearance bins full of the crap the store just couldn't sell, and I root through these bins until I find the shittiest packs of trading cards and I buy them just for kicks. Today I'll share the best of my finds.
I bought this one hoping it was some kind of communism themed game, alas, this was not the case. This pack of cards is a part of the "Shadow Fist" series, a TCG whose terrible package art has caused me to buy more than one. The cards contained within are never nearly as hilarious as the cover suggests. Here are a few of the better ones:
Thunder Initiate
"The fake pope can be identified by his hi-top sneakers and his incredibly foul mouth."
Moneky Vs. Robot
The art really isn't bad for this one, but it's the concept that baffles me. Why monkey vs. robot?
Blow Things Up!
The title of this card... and the way the guy looks. You know this guy. There's always that one creepy person you've known that you could just imagine going nuts in a mall and taking out a bunch of bystanders.
This next card is from the "C-23" TCG. The faces are funny in this one, and who the hell are those ninja looking people back there? That one is about to karate chop a guy.
Rioting Masses
Finally, these are The Best of my stupid card collection. I doubt I will ever find anything better.
The series ,"Ultimate Combat", is from 1995, meaning it sat in that damn store for eleven years until I bought it. As you can see, they were originally trying to sell the pack for $2.95- I got it for 49 cents. It features photos of men doing various karate moves, with hilarious results!
Left Hook & Arm Lock
Knee Kick
And my personal favorite...
Mantra of Power
Thus concludes my pointless exhibition. What stupid hobbies do you have?

I have some old M:TG magazines with print ads for CCGs that I don't even remember...
Tomb Raider?
SimCity?
WCW Nitro?
And those are just the one's based off properties you might've heard of.
My stupid hobby is probably buying action figures specifically so I can use them for one or two site gags.

My stupid hobby is playing (and collecting) rare video games, or games that no one has heard of. As we speak, I'm working on owning REZ.

I love the Arm Lock card. "Eliminate one of your foe's arms".
I thought RPG's held the exclusive right to make you fight appendages as seperate entities.

I used to be into TCGs liek whoa. Mostly Magic: The Gathering, but I dabbled in Seventh Sea for a while, which was fucking rad, but never took off.
Stupid hobby? Hmm, I exclusively read Magic: The Gathering novels. I made an exception for the Halo books, though.

McPoopenstein, those cards are hi-larious.
I have far too many stupid hobbies . In the vein of buying bad CCG cards, I buy WAY too many cheap, bad movies at dollar stores, Wal-Mart, and Disc Reply (used music/movie store).
I wish I could gloat about the atrocities I've seen, but some bad films just aren't funny or worth talking about. Then there's "Nemesis 3" which had to be destroyed immediately after watching.
As seen in this photo from thread #457:
Another stupid hobby of mine is doing those damn links to other posts and threads on this board!

I don't know if this counts as a hobby, but when I got home today I was browsing the tv guide, and saw that Satan's School for Girls was on. I knew that the movie featured a particular Canadian actress that I am a fan of, so I watched the rest of it. Despite the fact that it was on the Women's Network, and the fact that it starred Shannon Doherty, and the fact that i knew it was going to be bad, I watched it anyway.
I suppose subjecting myself to crappy movies, etc., because I like one minor player is sort of a stupid hobby.

My favorites are the horror movie bundles that promise 14 hours of horror for like 8 bucks. Instant classics/drinking games.

And just the number of copies of some of those films you end up with! I swear I own about six copies of "Silent Night, Bloody Night"... Man, I wish I owned six copies of "Silent Night, Deadly Night" instead...

I think I have maybe three or four copies of Night of the Living Dead in varying degrees of color and quality due to this form of purchasing.

I have a double DVD with Christmas Evil and Silent Night, Bloody Night. After watching Christmas Evil, I vowed never to watch the other movie on the DVD. The transfer was soooo bad and the movie was soooo slow, I figured the other movie couldn't be much better.

One of these multi-feature packs I purchased *for 3 dollars at Suncoast* was more of a porn laden with foam-and-syrup Satanic references than a night of horror movies. Not that I was expecting horror when I purchased them (I was hoping for at least a chuckle) it was definitely weird to wind up watching pseudo-porn with six other people from our apartment building at the time. Even my roommate decided he needed to work on his Organic Chem homework on a Friday night half-way through the first movie.
My vote in movie marathons for a few months after that was, of course, null and void.

I try to collect VHS tapes of movies I've seen on MST2k. Nothing makes you more proud than seeing the show and knowing, "I own this piece of shit."

Heh, I also own a mess of unMSTed movies. I sought out and bought my all-time favorite, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, starring Raul Julia.

They just had this advertisement on TV about some "14 horror films for the price of 1 ticket" thing down at the movie theater. Either they're new movies (and they do look new in the preview), or I've never heard of them.

Is that the one where they claim these are some of the movies that the MPAA deemed too graphic to even rate? Seems like a cheesy selling point, but I don't have anything going on that weekend. Out of that many movies, there may be one or two shining stars (and by that I mean one or two that bother with having a plot). Or, it may very well be 14 movies that are all like August Underground's Mordum.
EDIT:
I just found the batch of movies I was thinking of online. http://www.horrorfestonline.com is 3 nights of 8 movies on the weekend of Nov. 17-19 in select cities (which means they're not coming to Iowa.)
EDIT #2: And if I'd read more carefully, I guess you meant it was something local to your location. My bad. If your theater has a website, link me up, I'm wondering what they're showing.

They're coming here, but alas I don't think I'll be able to go. Really sucks as I didn't get to go to the Music Box Massacre either.

Yeah, I think it's a national ad campaign. All of the ads done locally suck ass, and this one looked professional. It also didn't have this local radio anchor who does almost every ad, so that's a big tipoff that it isn't local. If it's only in Missouri (and it doesn't sound like that), than I can see one ad making it up to Iowa.

While digging around for my spare PS2 controller (after throwing my current one to the floor), I came across some of my 4-for-cheapass movie collections from Suncoast. Check out some of these wicked titles:
Too Hot For Hell
Crystal Force II - "An evil being with a dark crystal wanders the night collecting souls for Satan. The evil being finds Jake, who only has one desire in life, and her name is Allison. Watch Jake battle the seductions of evil and the forces of doom, for the love of his life. Will he survive just for the love of Allison?"
I love it when they include sequels to movies but not the original in these bundles. This one literally looked like it was filmed with a Panasonic VHS camcorder.
Demonsoul - "Erica Steele is being haunted by a past not known to her. Nightmares about demon worship, ritual sacrifices, and a mysterious red headed woman haunt her every night. She seeks advice from a hypnotherapist who specializes in past life regression. He soon discovers that inside Erica is a soul trying to get out; the soul of a demon vampire."
Wasn't this called "Ernest Goes to Camp"?
Bloodbath - "Shot in the heart of film land, 'Bloodbath' explores the darker side of Hollywood. What happens to all those beautiful girls who never 'make it in the business'? Do they go off to live happily ever after? Or become living prey in a literal bloodbath. Watch and see..."
Now, if the failed actresses became zombies that terrorized Hollywood, we'd have something here. But, in reality it's a reason to put blood in porn.
Evil Sister - "Roxanne returns home after 15 years imprisoned in an insane asylum. Her sister, Merith, starts to question her sanity as strange things happen to her family. Merith believes that Roxanne is possessed by a succubus and is trying to destroy her marriage. Unfortunately, no one believes her..."
This has the bacony stink of Canada written all over it, but apparently it is home grown.
I also have another bundle called Sleazy Slashers, but I haven't had the fun of viewing those yet. I'll work on that later.

Haha, those movies sound hilarious!
Oh, and I completely forgot to mention that those martial arts cards are freaking hysterical. Anything else "worthwhile" in your collection, Sam?
Back when I played Magic: The Gathering for all of about two months, some well-meaning relatives bought me a whole box of a "collectible card game" called Battle Cards. It wasn't really a CCG per se. In actuality, they were SCRATCH OFF CARDS. You "battled" opponents' cards by scratching off icons corresponding to various body parts to see if you drew blood. Then you threw the damn cards out because you couldn't use them again.
It was about 3% cooler than a game of War with playing cards.

Me too in kind of the same way.
I play Japanese games none of you ever heard, or will hear of.
Then again, you would probably expect this from a dude that's a Japanophile.
