Looks like A Nightmare On Elm Street is getting the cliche remake makeover. No word if Robert Englund is on board yet. It's due out in 2010.

This is old news. Englund is not part of it, and Freddy will be played by Jackie Earle Haley, best known to most as Rorschach from the Watchmen movie.

They need to remake the Legend of Quilt Face, he's like the retarded stepchild amongst all the slashers, and never gets invited to any of their parties. Smile

I think they have lost the concept of what makes a slasher movie great. These reboot movies while darker, gorier and have cgi available, really cannot recapture what made the originals work. The bar has been raised high as to what shocks and what will keep you up at night(and no I am not just talking about gore), and I frankly don't think they have the balls or the imagination to release a product like that for mass consumption. I will see the movie for sure but I am not optimistic....btw you know Englund will make a cameo.

I honestly can't remember the last time I was actually scared from a movie. I think once your no longer scared of the dark nothing is really scary anymore. Sure I've been startled but never like "OMG walk in the forest at night" scared. I think Outbreak was the last time I was actually scared and that's because it had real world applications and it seemed possible.

Yeah I am more or less the same way, maybe I am desensitized. I can still watch some of the older movies and see what gave me nightmares as a kid, maybe it is just because I am little older but I don't see the" horror" in a majority of big budget hollywood horror movies..granted there are some gems out there. Anymore though to tell a real horror story the way it should be told you will get a nc 17 or hell maybe unrated which mean less profit so they usually get tamed down.

bah, you're still only fussing because it isn't robert englund's face.

freddy isn't a hard costume to do. it's a guy in a a gaudy sweater with a clawed glove and a burned face. the thing that makes freddy a character is the personality. lets worry more about how this guy acts and less about how he looks.

Well yeah, but I prefer for him to look less like a burnt space alien.

THAT doesn't look like a "burnt space alien" to you?

the only thing they did differently is that the new face looks more realistic. It looks like it's been burned badly for a long time, as opposed to Englund's "my face is covered in microwaved cheese and pasta sauce" look.

like I said, lets try to reserve judgment until we see if the guy can at least walk the walk.

If I was a legitimate actor and I was offered the part of Freddy, I'd take it. Not because I thought I deserved to be Freddy or thought I could ever be as good as Englund, but just so no one else could have the role. Then I sabotage the hell out of the movie and run it into the ground, thus destroying any chance of ONE sequel, let alone many. Then I'd go home and celebrate by watching Dream Warriors.

that's silly though.

who's to say that this guy won't do a good job, just because he's not the original actor?

well, seeing as syd is a human, and a republican, they are afraid of change. its something different. something they are not accustomed to and something unknown. so they are afraid. they dont want to be disappointed and they dont want their childhood movies/heroes to be tarnished. why mess w/a good thing? if its not broke dont fix it. yada yada yada.

but i agree w/you, dont knock it til the movie releases. then if it sucks, go ahead and talk all the crap you want. otherwise, im on a wait and see status

Personally, I think MovieBob's got some good things to say about the movie's prospects:

For me, this was as recent as Deathproof when I saw Grindhouse in the theaters. The reason? I wanted to see it so badly that I knew I'd have to walk home by myself, about 3 miles or so, after it was over. Sticking to the backroads at 3 in the morning or so (midnight premiere), I was tweaked as Hell that someone would run me over or something just as untoward would occur.

I agree with you that it does look like an alien which is a bit odd. The old Freddy's face looks more like a burn victim than the smooth new one if you've ever seen someone with their face burnt off. But I also agree with FNJ that that doesn't automatically mean it'll suck.

However, it seems like they are trying to make Freddy innocent and wrongly murdered by the townspeople giving him a revenge motive instead of his old motive of just being a psycho who loved to kill children, which would be retarded. Revenge is not scary. Also, I didn't hear any of Freddy's patented one-liners in the trailer, so that makes me worried...

That's because there aren't any.

Quote:
In an interview with Kyle Gallner, who is portraying the role of Nancy's boyfriend Quentin, the actor acknowledges that this Freddy will be closer to his 1984 counterpart; Gallner refers to this version as more of a "sinister, straight-faced monster" than the "jokester" that arose in the later sequels. Explaining why they chose to take away the comical aspect of Freddy's personality, Form and Fuller stated, "We've never been attracted to a jokey antagonist because it feels less scary and less real".

Change has nothing to do it with it. What pisses me off is that the movie studios want to have it both ways. When they do a high profile remake like this, they're relying on the brand name to sell the product. But then, they do some bullshit "serious" remake that pays absolutely no service to the fans that they hoped to pull into theaters by reviving the brand.

And then there's precedent. Every single horror remake they've done over the last five years has sucked. EVERY SINGLE FUCKING ONE. So excuse me if this shitty promo material has done nothing to assuage my well-grounded belief that the NOES remake will suck as well.

There was nothing right with it either, though. I was bored to tears watching it.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.
