Adi Shankar, who was the executive producer of Dredd, Machine Gun Preacher, The Grey, and Broken City, has announced that he will be producing a “super violent” mini-series based upon the 1989 NES game Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Furthermore, this series will be animated by Frederator, the team behind Fairly Odd Parents and Adventure Time, and will be influenced by titles such as Akira, Ghost In The Shell, and Ninja Scroll.
Shankar announced via his Facebook page:
wrote:
I’m producing a super violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.
Collider caught up Shankar, who told them that, “There will be a [lots of gore]. The goal is to bring hard hitting anime to the America and be America’s first animated series for adults.
When it comes to the music, which is a rather iconic aspect of the original Castlevania games, Shankar explained:
wrote:
The first thing I thought about was music and how we needed to avoid the traditional sword-and-sandal orchestra cliche and use the heavy metal electro guitar vibe found in the early games.
Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse is the prequel to the original Castlevania game. It follows Trevor Belmont as he aims to defeat Dracula with the help of Alucard and Syhpa Belnades.
Here's hoping this works out positively. Dracula's Curse was the second Castlevania I ever played (Simon's Quest was my first).

Happened to notice the distinct omission of Grant DaNasty. He may not be as well-regarded as the others, but he was there, man.

Possibly because of how much that mediocre fighter changed his characterization to that of an agile, dagger-throwing, mummy man.

His mediocrity as a fighter is precisely what makes me feel like a badass every time I take down a boss with him. Prime example: stabbing a hammer-wielding cyclops in the face 16 times.
I'm not sure how I missed this thread, but the fact that the producer thinks the early games had a "heavy metal electro guitar vibe" with the music couldn't make me less excited for it, if it ever comes out.

Looks like we haven't heard the end of this. Expect it on Netflix sometime later this year.

dope.... I'm cautiously optimistic since netflix usually puts some care with their own shows... can't be worse than captain N

This was quite decent and definitely exceeded my very low expectations. Hopefully they continue it.

I heard that as well. I can only imagine how weird hearing Ridley talk would be.

I'll admit I put my foot in my mouth and this actually came out.
I was right in thinking it would be forgettable generic anime silliness though! It just wasn't that good and it only resembled Castlevania like, 29% of the time. Ya'll know it's true.

I actually thought it was pretty spot-on. Sure, some elements of it were played up for the sake of entertainment, but I'm not sure how realistically faithful an anime can be to Castlevania III outside of making the entire show from a side-scrolling perspective.

I will agree with this, since I can't recall any story/character details at all after having watched this some time ago. The only thing I can recall is how cheap the animation seemed. It's as if they decided to not use any good animation techniques to make it stand out from the massive amounts of shit anime out there. It's a shame too, since I am a huge Castlevania fan.

I liked it... it wasn't anything great mind you but it was still entertaining and I am looking forward to season 2 which will be twice as long as episode 1

I stopped somewhere mid season 2.
I didn't like they whole dialogue driven approach the established in season 2 and I honestly didn't care all that much why the evil guys are evil and whatnot.
They kinda missed the essence what is Castlevania is about.
A lunatic with a whip, whipping the shit out of monsters, only stopping to eat some sweet "Wall-Meat" inbetween.
