Anyone remember Fighter Maker? That game was amusing. I still can't figure out how to make your own moves. Dunno how old it is, it's for PS1 and made by agetec and while the graphics and sound were quite generic, the fighting had enough depth with all the styles to make it a decent multiplayer fighter. |
I remember that game! I rented it and then played it for about three hours and then never wanted to touch it again after I found out that the fighter I just made required an ENTIRE memory card.

I respectfully disagree, I love it when I get to make my own fighters. In MK Armageddon I made a goofy elf guy who ended up looking alot like Link, since I'd already unlocked all the moves he didn't just have the generic moves ripped from Scorpion and I Immensely enjoyed kicking the shit out of my room mates ass with a goofy elf ninja.

I think the gold standard for CAF's that I've seen on a console game is SCIV. I've already used up half of the 50 CAF spots they give you.

id like it a lot more if the equipment you gave the guy didn't affect teh stats. stats should be modified in some other way. I don't want to have to choose between makign ugly ass people with great stats or awesome lookign people that suck.
I'm yet to win a fight onlien with leonidas or shao kahn.

Why should it be any different than in real life?

You know, I guess I really can't criticize SCIV for having a CAF. In a game where two muppets can fight each other on a merry-go-round, it's hard to say that a CAF denigrates the experience.
Now don't get me wrong, I still loves me some Soul Calibur, but the franchise has lost its serious edge. Now that is has comedic endings, joke stages, and an increasingly silly cast of charcters, the game really is nothing more than Tekken: Weapons Edition.

it's hard to say soul calibur ever had a serious edge when you could fight as a guy with an owl for a head.

I just played Soul Blade. What the hell is so serious about that game? It just seems like Tekken 3 with weapons and poorer graphics.

i'm pretty sure the merry go round stage is raphaels too, wich means it is kind of serious because he's an alcoholic pedophile

OK, that stage bites shit. I forgot about that one. But the rest of the game is just as serious as any other Soul Calibur game.

There's the circus level too, but that one's badass. The space levels are silly though.

What, the Star Wars ones? Those are stupid as hell unless you're playing as The Apprentice or Yoda. Hell, I think it would've been better to make a separate Star Wars fighting game using the same game engine.

It irritates the hell out of me that you have to fight The Apprentice in Arcade Mode.

there have always been a few comedic endings, and what do you mean by joke stages?
also, what characters do you really consider silly? out of the main cast of souls, the only one that I could say I didn't really think fit was tira, and they tried hard to fix her up for 4.
some of the costumes being ridiculous, I can totally agree with, however.

the merry go round is tira's stage, which fits her perfectly. I can't remember which stage is raphael's. most of them kind of suck this time around.
and how does undead vampire = alcoholic paedophile?

I like Tira, she's creepy.
Angol Fear really pisses me off and Ivy's new giant boobs make me LOL. Algol looks too much like Iska's boss from Soulcalibur Legends for me to take him seriously.
The "Raphael = pedophile" thing comes from his complete obsession with Amy, his foster daughter. Who is significantly younger than him. Raph and Amy, though allergic to sunlight, aren't technically vampires, as they don't drawn energy from others to survive, and Raph spreads his disease out of a twisted desire to make himself and Amy normal by making everyone like them. Cervantes, on the other hand, could be considered a vampire because he must constantly draw energy from others or he starts to decompose. I don't know where the alcoholic thing comes from... his eyes maybe? Raph, Sophitia, and Siegfried all seem to have a bad case of pink eye in SC4. Tira does too, but her eyeshadow kinda hides it.

uhhh does it matter if it has a CAF really? Just don't use it... stop being dumb.

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo! |

Quiet, you!
And I always kinda liked Raphael, he is totally a vampire too, I don't know why there's confusion to that. So he never feeds on anyone onscreen or anything, so what? Doesn't mean he's not one...

I tried SC IV for about an hour, looked at the create a fighter, and found I couldn't boost the attack on the guy without dressing him up like a BSDM fetishist. With samurai pants.
Really really lame.
