Thought that'd grab your attention. While such an idea would never happen, it seems one middle school student was quoted by another as "He's on fire!!!"

It seems the kid had a PSP in his pants and it had overheated to the point of setting his pants on fire and requiring a call to EMS.

Below is an alleged letter sent out to parents by the principal of the Oakland County (in Detroit) middle school:

School Principle wrote:
Dear Parents/Guardians,

Today, Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at approximately 8:30 a.m., an incident occurred in which a student had an electronic device, a PSP (a Sony Play Station portable) housed in his pant pocket. The PSP overheated and expelled excessive heat to the student's leg. The PSP was immediately removed from the building. EMS was called, and the Fire Marshall did an investigation of the scene and all was safe. The student received medical treatment.

We encourage students not to bring electronic devices to school. If a student has an electronic item or cell phone, the item must be turned off, kept in their locker, and shall not be used during school hours.

It's OK for a modding platform, though. Maybe if Sony saw this and made it open-source, or at least stop blocking the cracks, it would sell better.

Having been the owner of both DS and PSP, I can say that I liked the PSP system better in terms of hardware and screen quality. However, the software titles on both suck ass.

On PSP the only game I played on a regular basis was Hot Shots Golf.

On the DS, 95% of the time I am playing it, I'm playing Mario Kart DS.

Though, I am stoked for Civilizations. It looks sweet.

On on the original topic. Odds are the kid was using an overpowered aftermarket battery. There's a reason why sony limits the power of the batteries.

dbadkluadnacljcaliscacsn lords you tricked me

I really thought NBA Jam was coming to PSP coming in this thread, damn

The PSP has games I want to play, and I really want to buy one, but like I said earlier, 2008 looks dark for it.

same here, except that it seems as though most of the good PSP games eventually get ported to the PS2.

Off-hand, there's only about two games for the PSP I'd want to play: the remastered FFT: War of the Lions, and FF: Crisis Core. If three more games come out and look good on the system, then I might actually go buy it.

When you said it was in his pants, I thought you meant down the front of his pants, not in his pocket.

What a perv I am.

I dont get that really. Those GTA ports were sorta downgrades from what the PS2 already had. Why not port popular PS2 games to the PSP.

Well the twisted metal: head on game was ported over to the PS2, and the team that is making God of War is talking about how it might be ported over after it gets released on the PSP. Silent Hill Origins is gonna get ported over too, and I think I read that the Rondo of blood remake will be ported over too.

I wasnt even thinking of the GTA games when I mentioned that. I also understand that the japanese PS2 has a collection of MGS games that also includes the portable ops games.

The kid didn't deserve to have children. The PSP is great at deciding which humans are worthy of breeding.
