The Matrix made money in theaters. Also the sequels were awesome.

Ah, so it did. For some reason, I was under the impression it didn't. I saw it in a theater.

It made most of its money early on, but it also stayed in theaters for five months. Remember those days? Remember when movies were in theaters for more than three or four weeks? Those were good times. It gave the movies a chance to succeed. Take Galaxy Quest for example. It opened Christmas '99 and made $7 in its opening weekend. However, it stayed in theaters through the end of April 2000 and grossed $71 million total.
A little bit of both. It was a pretty good success at the theaters but it really picked up afterward. It was the first DVD i remember that everyone had to own.

Btw Jurassic Park is the king of staying in the theaters. I remember seeing it at the Drive In after the second one came out.

this thread inspired me to watch the movie, that i haven't seen since i was like 14. i was really anticipating the three boobed lady, but it didn't quite hold up to my memory. however, the movie is better now than when i was younger, because to be honest, i never questioned whether it was a dream, i always thought it was real. good movie.

Agreed. Great kids film, but it's pretty smart too.

Fuck, I wish it was still like that.

There's just too many movies! I'm not complaining though. Cool

But I see way more movies on DVD now than in theaters. Crying

Any movie with tits, guns, blood and breakin' necks is a bad-ass kids film.

That's the thing (I'm not a parent, so don't take me too literally), but I saw Total Recall on TV at a fairly young age. There's nothing in it that I would object to now as an adult. I'd probably show my seven year old son this movie without fear that he'd grow up to be Charles Manson.

Other movies I'd show my kids before they turn 13: Terminator 2, The Matrix, Predator
Demolition Man, Judge Dredd... actually, pretty much every Sly Stallone and Arnold film with some exceptions.
