i've started working at a local game store and get a discount on all they're stuff. I was going to buy one of the old sega consoles, but I'm not sure which. What are some suggestions or reccomendations you all have as to what I should get?

Sega Master System.
Your first game should be Phantasy Star. You can thank me later.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

Buy a Dreamcast, love it, adore it, sleep with it.
You won't get coldsores in the morning, like you would with a Nintenho.

The Dreamcast, Saturn, and Master System have some lost classics, but the Sega Genesis was the company's masterpiece.

Agreed, Phantasy Star is a killer game. Way ahead of its time.

If you're gonna grab a dreamcast, don't pass up Bangai-O. Definitely a classic.

dreamcast over saturn, for days son.
although saturn did have some good games, the library is just more robust for the dreamcast. and it was totally customizable so you can play any and all game systems on it. and w/bleem you can play PS1 games too.

Robust? they only made like 325 games as opposed to 467 games for the saturn.

the funny thing is i looked at the lists and was astonished at how good some of those games were. Fighters Mega Mix. Fighting Vipers Shining Force III. Half the games were later ported to the ps1 Lunar I and II Suikoden. Plus Saturn only games like S.C.U.D.

You got Suikoden mixed up.
It was 1st released for the PSX on December 15, 1995 in Japan. The Saturn port wasn't released until September 17, 1998. 3 years later.
Lunar was on Saturn 2 years before PSX, however.

Was it? I remember seeing a Suikoden Sega box. I just assumed like a lot of the games back then it was for sega first.
Back in the day i wanted a saturn more than a playstation due to Nights and Virtua Fighter until i saw the FF7 screen shots.

Suikoden I & II are, IMHO, the greatest non Square/Enix console RPG games ever made.

I'm not sure about that, but they are very good. Plus, I love the six man party, and I think it should be standard for RPGs of a console type.
(also, I've been meaning to mention this, is that between Death, Dan Hibiki, and Dio, your sig is the best thing ever. It doesn't even rape my computer with load time.)

My fav rpg from a diff company is probably one of the breath of fires. Most likely 3. Or maybe Lufia 2. Or Tales of Eternia.

Thanks! Though, I have been meaning to add a forth charater. It is just hard to find one the right size that isn't from a fighting game. (Since I already have Dan and Dio.) And, also, I don't want to use anyone mainstream. (Mario, Sonic, etc.)

Go with the Genesis, it has all the GOOD sonic games, before the 3D f-up, and then some. Whatever you do, don't bother with the Sega CD or 32X, if you want to play Snatchers, download a ROM.

a forth charater |
Maybe someone from Gunstar Heroes would fit the bill? They'd be the right size, about.

I never knew there was a console before the Genesis, I've never liked most Sega games, but for some reason I've always wanted to own a Master System ever since I learned about it.
Any games that y'all would recommend? I know about wonder boy but thats about it.
