Well, I'd be OK with it if it weren't for the fact that anime has gone from cool little niche to fad popular among emo kids and giant fags, and Wikipedia is probably just trying to cash in on this fad. Besides, she totally doesn't fit in with the scheme. I'd take a talking encyclopedia based on Microsoft's "Clippy" more than her. The perfect mascot would be Adolf Hitler with the Wikipedia logo on another armband opposite his swastika band, but that would be factual. Something that Wikipedia surely isn't.

Char, you're in high school? Wow. And Moggy (yeah, that's it. That's what I'm calling you), I once ate a sandwich out of a dumpster. My friends gave it to me, then half way through they revealed the horrible truth. Middle school kids are stupid, and I'm not excluding myself.

I used to really like anime, and I thought I was the only one who did. So of course I bought fucking everything anime. I heart anime shirts, wristbands, Totoro shirts and dolls. Then I noticed all those dicks wearing FMA shirts. So of course I have all that crap hanging up in my closet.

Yeah I always start hating something when everyone else starts loving it. I was one of the few people I know that was never into Pokemon. I never liked anime, though I did draw it with a friend for a while, and it forever fucked my style, cuz all my eyes are kinda square/triangular now.

Once I got into zombies and decided to start a collection of movies, merchandise just started popping up in Hot Topic. I mean, sure I'll but a Lucio Fulci shirt anywhere, but it did kind of piss me off.

Suppose I should respond to Chars post proper.

1. Anime has a lot of cool stuff, loser fans or not. No need to toss the baby with the bathwater.
2. I'm not sure wikipedia can really cash in on anime, in that its primary money earning method is begging.
3. People take fads too far. Notice how everything in the 70s went disco for a while?
4. I don't think the wiki girl is any worse than any other potential mascot.
5. I'm not sure Hitler would be a good Wiki mascot. Wikipedia doesn't have a lone despot, and comparing ethnic cleansing to deleting trivia entries is a stretch. Perhaps a pig's head on a stick ala "Lord of the Flies", symbolizing exactly what happens when you give free reign to children? I'd like to see how this pig avatar moves entries; telekinetic arms ala homestar runner?
6. Turning abstract concepts into little girls is very creepy. But now I'm curious as to how philisophical schools of thought would manifest.
7. I can't decide which makes me sound like more of an ass, glib responses or extended posts.

1. I don't know, I guess I've just stopped liking the majority of anime I see.
2. I don't mean cash in monetarily, I mean cash in on a fad to generate interest (which will in turn generate money). The good news is that this is how a fad's death is brought about, usually.

Robotgumshoe couldn't have said it better except in the cases of #2 and #6... Sorry dude.

The keyword is separation, which means I don't give a fuck who else like anime in general or a certain one, as long as I do, and I pretty damn well do.

Lemme also correct #2... It's not like Wiki-tan's on the front page, like everyday. She's only representative of anime/manga culture there. It's not supposed to be taken out of context like that.

..and correcting #6, that's happened for many years before Wikipedia was even thought of.

So, yeah. Also a talking globe or book would've been generic as all hell.
