You guys heard of Sean Kingston? The pudgy 17-year-old with a hit single? One line in his smash "Beautiful Girls" really bothers me. It goes as follows: "It was back in '99/ Watching movies all the time/ When I went away for doing my first crime" Apparently his 'first crime' was stealing the lunches of other 3rd graders...I can't stand artists like that who obviously don't write their own lyrics, or copy instrumentals from others (*cough*Rihanna*cough*). On that note, I also have problems with:
Carrie Underwood- In "Before She Cheats", she sings about her boyfriend hooking up with a hot blond. Carrie, you are a hot blond. You are the kind of woman men cheat with, not on. She also states to be a big fan of Guns N Roses, and I've seen a vid of her singing Skid Row's "I Remember You" live. So why is she singing this atypical, forgotten in two months country garbage?
Rihanna/ Beyonce Knowles- In their latest videos, "Shut Up and Drive" and "Irreplaceable", respectively, the singers are shown performing with bands. Rihanna is singing in front of a drummer, keybosrdist, bassist, and a guitarist who looks like he lost the audition for Simple Plan. Beyonce is seen with a full blown 9-piece band, with guitars and percussionists and stuff. Yet, none of these instruments are audible.
Fergie- She too commited the above-mentioned crime. Plus she's a crackwhore and I hate her.
You forgot to mention that "Beautiful Girls" is the shittiest song ever written and it steals, er samples, the melody from "Stand By Me".
I hate sampling so much. I especially hate Gym Class Heroes, who think they're so fucking clever by sampling eccletic stuff like Jermaine Stewart's "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off" and Supertramp's "Breakfast In America".
Also, I really fucking hate whoever sampled Rainbow's "Since You've Been Gone".
I forgot about the whole Stand By Me thing, right. And Gym Class Heroes, funny story. My sister was watching the video on tv, and my dad walked in and was all "That's Supertramp!" then explained the whole "Take a look at my girlfriend" thing to my sister.
I hate all that shit too. Just my two cents on the whole thing...

Damn right on all accounts.
One sampling incident that pisses me off: "American Bad Ass", by Kid Rock, samples Metallica's "Sad But True." SBT was one of the few good songs on the Black Album, and it pains me to see it sampled (slaughtered) by Kid Rock. I'm glad S.O.D. made fun of it:
"The Ballad of the Midget from Kid Rock"

That's more completely stealing the intro than "sampling"

That reminds me of a Muppet episode I just watched on the recently released Season 2 of "The Muppet Show" [$$$] in which Scooter kind of steals one of Elton John's songs, and yet Elton didn't seem upset about it...

Aside from Vanilla Ice, who didn't think people would remember a hit song that was barely 9 years old, the original artists always get credit. They get royalties and they get name listed in the writing credits. But very few artists bother to cite the exact song they sampled, or even that something was sampled, thus leaving it up to the listener to either know or not know if a beat or melody is sampled or otherwise copied. And that's not good enough. Artists should be required to put the names of the songs they sampled in the liner notes. Specifically, they should have to the name of a sampled/copied song on the lyric sheet between the song name and the lyrics.
But using part of someone else's song to make your own song is still super weak. It'd be like fucking Adrian if you're not Rocky.
Also, don't forget RegalSin's theme song. Good Vibrations.

Hey man, Vanilla Ice didn't rip off Under Pressure! I believe his exact quote was: "Under Pressure's bass line goes Da na na na na NA na, but Ice Ice Baby's goes Da na NA na na na na"
What happened to the whole Lewis/Parker/Drug/Ghostbusters scandal? Oh wait, I think I remember it was something no one could ever talk about ever again.

Seriously, he said that. It was ridiculous
No, no, no, it's all about the "ting." It goes "Da na na na na na na na, ting!"

Some of those were stretches, some of them were dead-on.
For instance, accuses Michael Buble of ripping of The Beatles is pretty ridiculous seeing as Buble was covering a song that was older than "Hey Jude" and also didn't sound anything like it.
And they could do a whole video with just "Jesus of Suburbia". There's a part that sounds like part of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" as well, along with a part that sounds exactly like Motley Crue's "On With The Show", and I'm pretty sure there were some songs in there too.

I'm glad someone else caught the Johnny Cash part. I thought I was the only one who noticed...none of my friends believed me when I told them. I didn't notice the Crue part at first, 'cause I hadn't heard that song at the time.
EDIT: Also, Korn stole the riff from Morbid Angel's "Angel of Disease" a while back.

And the opening riff of "Blind" sounds similar to Fear Factory's "Scapegoat". Look them up.
