I like many of you grew up playing the NES. That said I feel I have enough experience to say this is truly the worst era of video gaming ive ever seen. We have had technological and graphical advances where it shouldn't be this way. It seems like video game companies don't give 2 shits about our generation anymore. I get we are older but weren't we the generation that made video games mainstream? Wouldn't we still buy games and have shown to do so for decades on end....

My lulz moment for when modern video games jumped the shark

There have always been bad games sure, yet I have never seen respected AAA developers drop the ball so badly with longer development times with games that aren't even fun. I mean its like the people who enjoyed making video games died or something or were laid off. I still remember playing KOTOR in 2005 and being like this is just a well put together game that didnt make me miss older consoles. It was a game worth taking off work. Now barely any games fit into that category. If i can play a game for more than an hour and not be bored thats a win. Its like cut scene after cut scene and weird button mashing. Even my son doesn't like cut scenes and he is the prime gaming age!

Modern Examples of disappointment.

Bethesda- Starfield is just terrible, even modding it doesn't fix the core issues with the game. These are the people that made Skyrim. Heck Fallout 4 from 2015 was hugely better and some were torn on that one.

Ubisoft- Star War Outlaws- Never seen such an uninspired attempt at a Star Wars game. I mean you would think the people who grew up watching the prequels who make video games now would be excited at making a great Star Wars games.. How long has it been since Jedi Academy? Ubisoft makes junk food games but why not even try with an IP that is exciting?

Obisidian- They did awesome with KOTOR and Fallout New Vegas but now they just make mid games like The Outerworlds. Its like a less fun Destiny or some shit.  They are like Bethesda where they are resting on past laurels. Its like they dont know how to make an awesome game when they had the formula already.

It seems the only good games people play are Honkai Starail or some Anime based games that are after our generations demographic. I didn't grow up on Anime so its not my thing. I don't hate anime but I am 41....

Then there is a good game called Elden Ring but thats about it and doesn't check all the boxes for everyone. That is the only game that is considered universally a 9/10 type game in the last year. There is also Balders Gate 3.

Am I having a old man yells at cloud moment or is there something more to this?

I still think Capcom and Rockstar haven't fully gone to shit. Probably Valve too to be fair. Nintendo still milks the casual audience but I am talking about engrossing games here. We all know Nintendo is its own genre.

I think it's hilarious that many of the biggest games right now are remasters and remakes. I always preferred the older games, and it looks like I'm not the only one.

Heh, it's so true.

The big exception was Baulder's Gate 3, I think. Like yeah that was a sequel, but it was so groundbreaking that having a series name on it hardly counts.

But that's one of the few.
