Talking in the Wii U about it gave me an idea for a thread. What are some examples of PS1 games that weren't blocky and ugly messes like the character models from Final Fantasy VII? I think it's safe to leave out Resident Evil and MGS in this too, they aren't pretty games (Though the pre-rendered backgrounds in RE and FF7 are still gorgeous)

Rayman (1995)

Oddworld Abe's Oddysee (1997)

Breath of Fire III (1997)

Lunar Silver Star Story Complete (1998)

Heart of Darkness (1998)

Tekken 3 (1998)

These were just off the top of my head, I'll think of some more. You guys feel free to add yours as well.

Can't find any good quality screen grabs of it, but for N64, Yoshi's Story. It's just a shame they didn't put as much effort into gameplay as they did into the beautiful art direction.

And Paper Mario:

So I guess any N64 game that's pop-up book themed. PSX has a lot more, largely because it has a lot of 2D stuff.

Alundra comes to mind:

The original Rayman, now that's a video game. I never beat it but Ill always consider it the best game in the series.

I know it's ugly as all hell, but the first time I played Tomb Raider it blew me away. I fell for the whole feeling of exploration.

I may be alone in this, but I still consider Banjo-Kazooie one of the best looking N64 games. Banjo-Tooie just somehow didn't have quite the same look or age as well as the first did, and Goldeneye and Perfect Dark both look silly now.

Legend Of Mana was quite pretty, as were both protagonist genders.

Isn't it kind of cheating, Josh, to ask about early 3D games and then list mostly 2D ones? Laughing Most 2D games should look good on 32-bit systems.

But I think these 3D games still look good (spoiler'd, because they're all YouTubes):

Raycrisis
