Got it during the Steam Sale, and just got around to playing it. Its gameplay can probably be described best as "room-clearing simulator" in that it's kind of the video game version of those stylish "bust in a room and kill everyone" scenes in gangster movies. Most of the gameplay focuses on room-to-room clearing of enemies using melee weapons, firearms, or even your bare fists. The game can be played either as a stealth game or run-and-gun, and has both rewards and punishments for either style. If I could use any other games to describe it, it's sort of like Rainbow Six/SWAT mixed with GTA2. It's a great mix of strategy and action, and surprisingly deep for having such simple mechanics. The game is very hard, yet rewarding when you finally pull off the perfect string of kills that clears out a whole house in less than 2 minutes. A little gameplay video w/ commentary to explain it better:
The presentation is probably the best part of the game. It has a slick slasher-movie/'80s gangster movie vibe with that GTA2/Metal Gear look, and the music is just awesome:
There are some hiccups. The game is quite buggy, and seems to lose its shit for no reason sometimes. The developers have been releasing fixes and advice, so that any time I run into a particular problem, I can usually just find a tip that helps me out, and I'm back in action. I'd recommend it for people having an itch for a difficult or a strategic game that requires more thought and reflexes than binding all 80 hotkeys to just the right spot for your RTS zergrush.
So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

I love Hotline Miami. People keep comparing it to the Grand Theft Auto games, but there is no driving involved, nor do you run around any cities. It's an awesome 2D shooting game with melee combat. It has glowing pink graphics and an awesome soundtrack because it's themed after the 80s. I bought the game a few days after it came out, and didn't experience any glitches.

Gameplay-wise, it's only even somewhat close to GTA 1 or 2, almost entirely due to the perspective, but it's similar to those two in terms of mood, violence, and anarchic weirdness.

Oh my god, I freaking love this game. I'm sure a lot of people on here have gotten their fill of the soundtrack considering I've plastered it all over my Facebook wall, but it seriously may be my favorite soundtrack of any game ever. (youtube links in the spoiler tags)

It's also one of the most rewarding games I've ever played. Everything kills you in one hit, but being able to successfully take out mobsters in a successful manner and a successful order (and being able to adapt in a split-second if something goes wrong) with lighting fast reflexes feels incredibly satisfying. I was surprised at how much creativity the game requires in order to take out all the mobsters in a level in a way where someone won't sneak up behind you and blast you in the face.
Oh, and I won't ruin anything for anyone, but the plot definitely contains a lot of psychological hijinks that I love in my favorite games. If someone's looking for a game with a head-scratching plot, they'll definitely find it here.
