While exploring old TMNT tapes looking for a Casey Jones episode, I came across dozens of 1-900 commercials. This included: He-Man and Robocop 2. Why Robocop 2 had a kid friendly 1-900 # I'll never know.

Even weirder was an ad for Total Recall. I took special notice of it because it was narrated by AR-NULD himself. There was also a prize which was the NES game. If you know what I'm hinting at, you deserve to watch this ad.

I've put up a low quality copy at Angelfire

http://www.angelfire.com/comics/blueheaven/stickers.htm

Either put that link in the browser or go to the main site and add "stickers.htm" into the web address if an error comes up saying: "No direct linking allowed".

Once on the page, check the source and you probably will be able to get the .mov's name from there to download it. I suggest doing that, rather than wait.

For anyone else trying to watch this, http://www.angelfire.com/comics/blueheaven/totalrecall.mov is the link. Just right click it and choose "Save As". That's damn pretty cool, can you put up the RoboCop 2 one?

Can and did:

I switched sites, because Angelfire will shut them down as soon as they realize that I'm using them for nothing but sharing movies. Because of this. All movies will be off by Monday.

For kicks, here's the He-Man one:

I find all three of these commercials immoral and the concept of advertising 900#s to children sinful. This isn't psychics or porn, it is promising excitment for the kids and empty promises of free stuff. Talk about playing on the weak will of children. I especially find it horrible the original He-Man voices participated in this scheme. At least Peter Weller did not agree to do a voice spot for the Robocop 2 ad.

Speaking of which, why are two of these commercials based on an "R" rated movie? Have "R" rating standards gone up in recent years? There's no way I'd take my kids to see either movie. Not till they were 13 or they tell me to "fuck off", whatever comes first.

BTW, usually when I post a link to the file, Angelfire comes up with an error page saying I can't do that. I guess going through this site and straight downloading gets around it somehow (if there is a problem, just go to the main page and then add the ___.mov title). So enjoy until Monday.

I like how it asks younger callers to get their parents' permission first. Well, you didn't need a credit card for that shit and most kids didn't know any better. You see the chance to get free shit, so you call the number. Then when your parents see the phone bill, you get your ass kicked. And corporal punishment was still mainstream in the 80s, so it hurt like a son of a bitch.

I am shocked and appalled. I don't remember seeing any of that shit in my youth. Maybe I was just watching the wrong channels, or I just zoned out for the commercials.

Man, that is whack.

It took a while, but the videos are now offline. If anyone wants to see them in the future just post here and I can repost them for a limited time.

Or someone can e-mail send them via e-mail. I have a feeling several of us currently have them sitting on our computers.
