The Oxford English Dictionary is a warehouse of over 600,000 words. Despite this large arsenal, we continue to coin, clip, and blend new words into existence, and the OED folks pump some of these new words into their dictionary. Here are some more recent additions with their official definitions.
1. Bling (n): Expensive, ostentatious clothing and jewelry.
*
2. Bromance (n): A close but non-sexual relationship between two men.
*
3. Chillax (v): Calm down and relax.
*
4. Crunk (adj): Very excited or full of energy. |

I've never said "Chillax" in my life, and wish death upon people who do.

How did they determine how many "r"s went into grrrl?
Also the only word I can see not turning into archaic slang within the next 3-5 years is Infomania.

Why do you even care? You speak and write American English. The Oxford Dictionary carries all British Spelling so i wouldn't even be worrying a little hair on your heads. I have to care cause i speak Hiberno-English and write in British English.
Although the words are stupid they continually add and remove words all the time. Look at a dictionary from the 70s and some of the words are laughable. It's just a sign of the times and in like 20-30 years they will be gone again.

It's a dictionary. It's supposed to have all the words. And when we make new words, they get added in. It's a yearly thing, you know.
Some of those are pretty silly choices, though. On the flip side, it is REALLY cool to see "truthiness" elevated to word status, and how did it take this long to get "D'oh" in there?

I'm fine with a lot of these, but I know lots of people, and if any one of us said the word "Twitterati" even in an ironic sense, we would receive a well-deserved back-alley ass whipping. I just don't think anyone actually uses a lot of these words outside of a mocking tone, and the dictionary adding them just seems like a grab at young people, and any time an adult tries to jump on modern slang, it just automatically makes us all cringe.

So THAT'S what "crunk" means.
Leave it to my best buddy the OED to finally explain that shit to me.

Yeah that's not what I thought it was. I always just assumed it was some urban slang combination of crazy and drunk, basically meaning to get really wasted. Guess I was wrong.

I learned during high school that crunk is supposed to mean a drug/alcohol binge of sorts. Maybe both at the same time.

"Grrrrl" or whatever has been in the punk lexicon for about 30 years to basically lump female hardcore bands like Bikini Kill into one sub-genre called Riot-Grrrl. Doesn't make it any less retarded of a word, though.

Perhaps it's just me and being born later than you guys, but I tend to associate "grrrl" with women in their late teens or early twenties that are hardcore bitches who shop all the time. Typically really opinionated.
