I practically cringe whenever I walk up to the counter of a Gamestop store when buying something. I know in a few seconds I am going to be accosted by a sales clerk to buy a scratch protection plan on my game disc, or some other bullshit warranty I don’t want. After this latest story, I think I may just avoid Gamestop for the next couple months.
It appears that Sony has struck a deal with Gamestop to host regional contests to see which store can sell the most PS3s, with the winner receiving a boatload of points to be redeemed in the private Sony/Gamestop retail rewards site (credentials required). Additional points will be granted to the number one store in the whole company.
Sony seems fixated on the belief that people want to pay $600 for the PS3. If you just bug the hell out of them for long enough, people will start buying them! Aside from the lack of games and being overpriced, for me there’s really only one thing that could really tilt the scales and convince me to buy one - having a Gamestop employee bug the everliving shit out of me whenever I walk into the store. Bravo Sony!

What a pointless and futile bribe.
Oh well. The Gamestop in my town never gave me any trouble, so I doubt I'll have any further problems once this "competition" starts.

I actually have a friend who works at GameStop. Sadly, he's the only clerk that I've dealt with that pushes the preorder to no end.

If I do go into an EB, or Gamestop, I walk in holding a 10 in my hand, shoving it in their faces, exclaming "This is all I'm spending, fuck off!". I can't stand their bullshit, and the way they peddle their bullshit.
I seriouly only spend, at most $20 on 95% of the games I buy anymore.

That's what I use to do, and still do. I hate paying more then 20$ for a game. I used to go in and pick off there cheaper Gamecube and Xbox games, etc, and they'd always make a face because it wasn't TEH LATEST AND GREATEST!!!
One of the dumbest times was me and the chicka clearing them out of some old PS1 games for cheap, and I also picked up Ninja Gaiden which was 15$. The guy cringed, said Tekken 3 was old, and said Ninja Gaiden Black just came out. I told him it's also 50$, he made a wierd face and shook his head. I swear.

*Sigh* You just don't understand. If it's newer, it's better. Also, I get less commission if you buy older games.

Commission? I wish I got commission. Then I might actually consider caring whether people pre-order things through GameStop or not. For now, however, I don't.
Anyways, I believe our store is included in that thing (if it isn't a company-wide thing), but none of us really care. The only people who are willing to buy the PS3 in Wisconsin are the types of people who look like they can not afford it. I guess selling crack is more profitable than it used to be.
I'm not saying that this trend is true for everyone that purchases a PS3, but spending $600 on something because it looks pretty is just a waste of welfare money around here. So much alcohol can be purchased for the same amount, but I guess no one has beaten their spouse while trying to ingest a video game system.

Man I remember working at FuncoLand...we got $2 for every game informer subscription we sold and $3 for every system cleaner. Not to mention some of the 3rd party controllers. It used to be fun to work in retail for them, then Gamestop took over...

Corporations are bull; they've ruined retail. That's all I have to say.

I need a location...we had one but the guy is asking for 6000 a month, which is just ridiculous. Wines and spirits was the last place that was in there, and that was 3 years ago. I've been driving all over looking for a available location but there are non that are what I want. I'm starting to get frustrated, very frustrated. I still need the Logo too, but I need to figure a way to talk him down from 72K a year to about 12K so wish me luck!

Geez I'm like the only person on the planet who hasn't had a bad experience with GameStop. I'm actually friends with the people there, they help recommend games, talk honestly about weather or not a game sucks, and I have great conversations. I guess I'm lucky.
