I just watched the trailer for "Stay Alive."
And I'm mad.
It looks like pretentious propaganda bullshit -- the new generation's "Mazes and Monsters," with videogames instead of roleplaying.
Thoughts, anyone?

This looks lame. And it's an old concept too. It's been done on both The X-Files and Are You Afraid of the Dark among other places. And it has Frankie Muniz in it. Omigawd! The game is real! THE GAME IS REAL!!!!!!!!!!
No.
Pass.

They all look over 25 years old with business jobs! That's what pisses me off. They need to be teenage slobs that live in their parents basement and do nothing else with their lives. They die and society wins. That's a propaganda movie.

Heh. They seem to be pushing the "addiction" thing too, which makes me wonder about the propaganda angle.
Yeah, the plot's a total rehash of stuff we've seen a million times before, and it was usually lousy then, too. It even reminds me of the TERRIBLE Dreamcast game based on the "Ring" movies.

It was NOT terrible on Are You Afraid of the Dark! "Hey, we did it! We're fucking awesome!...oh no, some douchebag just put another quarter in the pinball machine and we have to do it all again! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
Maybe that shouldn't be in quotes as I'm paraphrasing....

There was actually a virtual reality episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark too. You know, back when virtual reality was still considered cool because no one knew anything about it.

Didn't it have that large brain virus and tried to plug into the main character's head all because he changed the combo on his friend's locker?

I may see it out of morbid curiosity. Someday.
Was it as anti-game propagandistic as I thought?

No. It had little to nothing to do with video games actually. Sure they say "Fatal Frame" and "Silent Hill", but "Stay Alive" is just the MacGuffin for a much stupider plot.
I think the only anti-game propaganda in it is that a video game store clerk wears a "w00t" shirt... Or that a CEO hires his clerks based on the video game advice they give him.

Tebor, did you just say McGruff? Clearly this is anti-crime/pro-law enforcement propoganda.
As for a w00t shirt and hiring clerks based on their gaming advice, that doesn't seem really anti-gaming at all, and it does seem like a good way to hire clerks at a gaming store as well.

I don't think they ever say where the CEO works. From the establishing shots it would appear to be in a skyscraper. Sorry for the mix up.
The w00t clerk is just a little too stereotypical for my tastes... and who the hell wears a w00t shirt? That's just sad.

You've been asking for it for months now, and here it finally is! Own the nerdy goodness that is Marten's TEH t-shirt. The men's shirts are sexy denim-colored Hanes Beefy Ts, the ladies' are adorable lilac Bella babydolls. The "TEH" itself is about 3.5" x 2" on the center of the shirt.
Replete with faggish emo glasses!
