Does anybody actually go to these? I am assuming so but ive never actually attended one myself. Which midnight release for a video game did you ever attend? I plan on going to the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 release dressed as batman to buy Arkham City and Madden 2007, i think the upset level at my local gamestop may explode and have hilarious results.

I've never gone to one, but I might go for Skyrim since I'm shelling out the big bucks for the Collectors Edition.

The last one I went to was for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. I don't usually go to them but I enjoy them whenever I'm in the mood to.

I have been to quite a few, although the only one I can recall was for the Wii console because it was fucking freezing. Now, I just preorder collectors edition games and then show up to buy them after they go on sale and piss off the manchildren who work at the Gamestops around here. I get to save money and make people mad, which are two of my favorite things to do.

I drove my brother up to a midnight release at Gamestop because he wanted to get FF13. When I saw that there were like 8 people dressed up like Sephiroth, I stayed in the car. However, I will be picking up Skyward Sword at midnight probably. There's no way I can sleep knowing I could have it in my possession.

thats the only midnight release i have ever attended.
the EB people (or was it gamestop already? eh who cares) had trivia for us while we waited in line & gave us small prizes. we won some posters (what is master chiefs name? john) and an Andre the Giant action figure. it was generic as fuck, but still cool.

They were having a Halo 1 Lan thing going on at the E.B. I went to. It was inside the mall so it was pretty awesome being inside when the whole place was closed. They gave the winning team a bunch of free swag.

I've never been to one, but I might go pick up my reserved copy of Skyrim at midnight. I have little to no interest in any special events they may be holding at the time I just fucking want Skyrim the second it is possible for me to have it.

Oh thank god, I'm not the only idiot who plans on shelling out for the Skyrim collectors. I've only been to a couple midnight releases in the past, but usually I don't care to attend because I like to take my time with new games and savor every moment. Kind of hard to do that when I live 40 minutes away from the nearest store that sells games. I know I picked up Fable II and Twilight Princess at midnight, and attempted to get a Wii, but was #21 in a line that only had 20 Wii's available.

Never been to a midnight release. I rarely get games on Day One anymore, because, really, who the fuck cares?
If I can get a game tax-free with Super Saver shipping from Amazon, that's where I'm gonna get it. Only time I get a game on Day One is when Amazon offers 99 cent release day shipping, which they haven't been doing as much lately. At least, not for games I want.
Last game I got Day One in an actual store: New Super Mario Bros. (The DS one)
Last game I got Day One from Amazon: Catherine

I picked up Gears of War 2 and 3 at their respective midnight releases. Normally, I agree with Syd, it doesn't really matter too much to get the game on day one - especially with DLC shenanigans being the norm, so I'm typically the due that just waits for the all-in-one edition to be released. Still, my group of regulars have always had fun with the games on release night through Xbox Live, so it was worth it to me.
I do remember forcing my parents to take me to Wal-Mart for the midnight release of the Gamecube and Luigi's Mansion. Feel free to laugh at that one.

Last midnight release I went to was for Resident Evil 5. They didn't do anything special, but me, one of the Gamestop employees, another customer, and the mall security guards played Street Fighter 4 for the two hours until RE5 came out.
EDIT: Oh yeah...I got Pokemon White at midnight, but that was at Walmart, and the employees weren't ready for me and the 6 other people lined up for the game, so I got it at around 12:30.

I went to the Gears of Wars 3 , had a lot of fun there. Plan to go to the Skyrim one with my friend this week.
Didn't get a game in Gow3 and I won't be getting Skyrim ,but it kills a few hours and the laughs we get is worth it.

I went with a bunch of friends to the Super Smash Bros. Brawl one, and that's the only one I've ever been to. When you have a large enough group, it's like doing any other fun thing at midnight.

Yeah my brother was thinking about going to it tonight but I think he decided against it. He is taking me to Skyrim's though even though I won't get to play the game all weekend because I have to finish helping my Dad move. I still want the game so I have motivation to get the work done as fast as possible so I can get to it sooner.

I went to the one for Reach, mainly because my roommate was already going and I had enough money to snag a copy. I'm definitely fucking going to the Skyrim one; I have Thursday and Friday off so it's get paid, wait til midnight, then play Skyrim from then until one or two AM Saturday...

Yeah I'm seriously considering going to game stop to get my CE of it. I work Thursday up to about 9 and it's less then a fifteen minute drive to where I have the pre-order. Top that off, my work never scheduled me for the weekend so I'll be adventuring through Skyrim all weekend as well!

To the best of my memory, I've never been to the midnight release of anything. With all the downloadable content and extras and add-ons these days, it seems smarter to wait instead of getting it on day one anyway.
I got Mass Effect 2 when it first came out on the PS3 and cringed at the $60 price tag. But, I rationalized, it had all the downloadable content included. Now it's down to $20 on Amazon for the exact same thing. I just hate wasting money, and I feel like buying something on day 1 is exactly that, especially when you know the price will drop in 6 months or so. Also gives the company time to crap out game fixes and patches.

I've never been able to justify waiting for a game just so the price could drop. Obviously I'm just extremely impatient, but even if the game were $100 more on day 1 than it is on day 90, I'd still pick it up the first chance I get. Waiting may make things cheaper, but the video game industry moves at a mile a minute and if you're not playing the latest released game, then you have nothing to contribute to at the water cooler.
Also, seems like I'm going to the Skyrim midnight launch with a friend now, but I'm starting to panic that I won't be able to pick up the collector's edition guide. Do I have to pre order that too?
