A 38-year-old father has been arrested after forcing his 16-year-old daughter to participate in a mock medieval sword battle for two hours until she collapsed in the front yard. The girl was also bruised and injured from the sword battle.
Fremont Seay, the father, tried to discipline his daughter by hitting her with multiple switches. Then as a tactic change, he made her dress in medieval clothing and fight him for hours with a wooden sword.
Seay allegedly told investigators that he was a renaissance fighter and that because his daughter was 16, he had the right to fight her with a wooden sword.
After the sword fight, the girl texted a friend who called 911.
Seay and his wife Julie were arrested and booked on charges of second-degree assault.
Bail was set at $10,000 for Fremon Seay and $5,000 for Julie Seay. The deadline for prosecutors to file charges is this afternoon.

Really?! To be active about that sort of thing is one thing, but to put your own child into exhaustion and then beat her is overkill (so to speak). I half imagine he'll be punishing her again for using modern technology to seek aid.

This is why people who play D&D should not be allowed to reproduce (in the rare occurance that they have the opportunity).

Huh. Definitely wasn't expecting to read anything like this today. Folks, I think there's better ways to discipline your children.

Yeah, the thought of a possible PCP Boy makes me cringe.

I still remember my buddy Paul and cousin Garrett getting the strap from the principal in Kindergarten. (and this was 1986, the last year corporal punishment was still in effect here).
I don't know how a man could could hit kids with a strip of leather as part of his job requirement.
I kinda support corporal punishment, but could never enforce it myself, kinda like I like to eat various meat, rabbit and moose being my favorite, but could never go out and set the snare or pull the trigger myself to kill the poor thing.

Oh yeah, she will return with the legendary "Wooden Sword Of Great Power" seeking vengence. Everybody knows only the "Mop Handle Of Darkness" can counter that shit.

Years of camping underneath a power line tower has rendered PCP Man sterile.

I like how the mother got arrested too. That'll teach you to be an enabler.

She needs to keep training, preferably away from the city. She's going to need all the swordfighting skills she can muster once they get out of prison.
Also, "Renn Fighter" sounds like the name of a throwaway anime from the 90s.

My thoughts axactly... I din't know what the thread was about exactly till I started reading... I compare to to those live RPGers who go out and whack each other with wooden weapons ala 'Role Models'.

What does Renn Fighter even mean? Sathien put it in the title, but I don't see it referenced in the article at all.

Fire fighters fight fire.
Crime fighters fight crime.
So do Renaissance Fighters fight against another Renaissance?

I was going to say I would watch an old-school anime called "Renaissance Fighter _________", but I didn't notice that the article didn't give the girl's name.
[Edit]I also didn't notice that the article referred to the father as the renaissance fighter, but I think that titles like that are better ascribed to teenage girls.

A father's assumed discipline meted out against his daughter might land him with felony charges. Reportedly, he forced the 16-year-old to fight him with a wooden sword until she collapsed with fatigue. Medieval hobbyist forces daughter to fight him with a wooden sword. I understand that a parent should discipline and punish their child when they have done wrong but using a wooden sword or any hard thing is not appropriate. He could have killed her thinking that the fight lasted for two hours. |
That was too mean. If I were the father of that child, practically would not do that. Even spank with a wooden stick.
