WARNING: lots of personal blathering ahead. If you're not interested, feel free to click out.
Forgive my caps-screaming, but seriously, this might be the best thing to happen to me since approximately ever.
As you may or may not know, yours truly has been unemployed for some time, and I haven't had much in the way of prospects, with the California edjumakation situation being what it is. And to be quite frank, I had a truly horrible experience student teaching last semester (you may remember some of my rants about it), and it honestly put me off teaching, at least for the short term. Not like I was gonna say no if I got a teaching job, but no one was offering one anyway.
Any rate, today I hit that low pit of desperation where I was ready to jump off a bridge if someone would pay me a decent salary for it. And then, after random desperate googling for jobs, I somehow ended up on the Cragslist->job->art section by mistake. And there, I found a posting for a full time photographer for an online magazine that pays quite decently (at least as much as I would make as a substitute teacher, which is NOT a career move I was looking forward to.) I have quite a bit of photography experience thanks to being the Cadet Public Affairs Officer in ROTC, and I have a decent portfolio of work. The hours are very good, and the PAY for the amount of work is excellent. The job also involves writing articles to go with the pictures you take, which I couldn't be happier about.
On an absolute whim, I sent a cover letter and resume, and they agreed to an interview! I keep re-reading the job description and going, "I could really make a decent living doing this? Really?"
Anyway, the interview should be Monday. I don't often (well, ever, really) ask people for their thoughts/prayers/karma/what have you, but this feels like something very special, if it ends up being what it seems. If you're of a mind to, hope that it IS what I think it is, and that I land this job.
