I was thinking about an old anime from the 80s today, but I can't think of the title. The story was about a young man imprisoned in the (flying?) castle of an evil sorceress. In fact, I think the castle was built out of trapped souls or something like that. I remember it having a cyberpunk-type feel, very dark and futuristic. At the end, the kid frees the souls in the castle and it comes apart.

Normally I'm not a huge anime fan, but I remember this being cool (from my 10 year old perspective of cool) and wonder if it's on DVD. The fact that I saw this on TV would suggest it was on HBO, because not many other channels were playing anime in the late 80s.

Anyway, does anyone remember this one? Any idea what the title was?

It might have been an episode of Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics on Nickelodeon.

The only thing I can think of is Nausicaa: Castle of the Wind or whatever, but that's not it.

Holy crap, I think I've seen that! Unfortunately, I have no clue what it's called. I was only around 4 when at the time and it scared the bejeezus out of me, so I've always kind of wondered what exactly that movie/show was.

I can describe what I remember about it and maybe someone else will recognize it. A guy (main character?) was trapped in a dark, empty room, somehow restrained or hypnotized, with a single spotlight shining on him. He was wearing white, undergarment-like clothes, and his arms were spread like he was being crucified and his head was lying against his chest. A sinister mad scientist-looking person was behind glass window in another room commanding him to do something (maybe tell some information?), but the guy wouldn't do it. It went on like that for a while 'til the guy finally broke down.

Maybe my mystery show and your mystery show aren't the same... my family *did* have HBO at the time, so it's possible.

you're either thinking of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (great movie) or Castle in the Sky. Both are Hayao Miyazaki movies. Having not seen Castle in the Sky I can't say for sure if thats it, although I don't think it is. However Nausicaa is definately not it.

Even I'm stumped here, but I don't think it was a Miyazaki movie. ^^

"Holy f***ing shit that was a sweet @$$ show." I said that 15 years ago and I say it again now. Alas, I only own "Cinderella" on VHS. I hope it's DVD released someday. That show was amazing.
