I was just browsing the Foo Fighters thread there and i saw Kubos post in which he ordered his favorite Foo Fighter albums. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if i posted his selection:

1) The color and the Shape
2) There is Nothing Left to Lose
3) Wasting Light
4) In Your Honor/Skin and Bones
5) Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace
6) Foo Fighters
7) One by One

What i always find intriguing is how peoples views on music can differ completely. I shortly posted mine which is completely different:

1. Foo Fighters
2. There is Nothing Left to Lose
3. One by One
4. The color and the Shape
5. In Your Honor
6. Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace

I think this thread would be a good one to compare different thoughts on albums and maybe why you prefer certain albums over others. You don't even need to list all the albums by an artist as you may not have heard all their records. It's fun to do and fun to compare.

Great. Now I'm sad that Layne Staley is dead. Every time I listen to him perform that live unplugged show, I miss the early 1990s and the way his voice sounded. I know it's sacrilege to say so in some circles, but Layne Staley owns Kurt Cobain.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

Haha again our thoughts are almost opposite - well in the case of Nirvana anyway. I can't believe you rate Yield so low. It really is a brilliant album, every songs amazing and you rank Vitalogy above it.. i'm not saying it's bad but sheesh it has bugs on it and foxyultimatefillertrack, haha. Still Vitalogy is good too, Last Exit, Spin the black circle, Corduroy, Satans Bed and Tremor Christ are all great songs and oh yes Betterman! Alice in chains for me as well is a great album. Everyone always harps on about how Dirt is the pinnacle of their career and the grunge sound. Tripod kicks its butt. Some of the songs on Dirt sort of sound the same to me or are a bit boring. Jar of Flies is really good though, I Stay Away and No Excuses kick ass.

Cobain and Staley sort of have different voices to me. Staley is the more "operatic" singer who sings well, holds long notes, has a "technically impressive" voice. Cobain is more of the punk, raspy voice suited to yelling stuff until he sounds hoarse. Staleys lyrics are better than Cobains, though Cobains are always sort of qwerky and funny. Cobain is obviously a better guitarist than Staley, i don't know how much guitar Staley wrote apart from Angry Chair. It's questionable whose a better songwriter.

EDIT: I'm glad you rate Backspacer so low though, it was an abomination.

To tell the truth, Vitalogy got the big nod on the strength of two songs: Corduroy and Not For You. I LOVE both of those songs. I dug Yield, particularly Do the Evolution, but I just never got into it after several listens. That said... I need to go back and listen again, it's been more than a few years since I listened to that album and my musical tastes have changed since then no doubt.

As far as Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain go... I agree on all counts. There's just something really haunting and nostalgic for me about Staley's voice. Where most people identified with the angst and anger in Cobain's voice, I always found myself drawn to what I thought was pain in Staley's. Not that I've been depressed... but I always thought Staley's voice conveyed more than any other voice I've ever heard.

Haha i totally forgot about St. Anger, i guess it shows the impression it gave on me. I've never seen someone rate "...and justice for all" that high EVER. Interesting.

Also 10,000 days last?

With ...And Justice for All I just prefer the songs I suppose. It helps that it ends with one of my favorite songs (Dyers Eve). But, depending on my mood, 2-4 can switch places (so can 5-7...not as often).

Really, I rank them as:
1. Kill 'Em All
2. The Next Three (almost as good)
3. The Rest (not St Anger)

And with 10,000 Days....I dunno'. I've listened through it ten different times, but it just doesn't work for me. Not like the first three albums, anyway.
