I remember reading a short story when I was in high school, it was only a few pages long, it was in one of our English books. The main characters were a boy and his little brother. In the story, a bird flies into their window, killing itself. They discover that the bird was not indigenous to the area and had no business being there. Later, the little brother dies, he had health problems if I remember correctly. That is about all I remember, maybe someone here has read it and can tell me what the name of the story was.

Holy shit dude. That would be "The Scarlet Ibis". I didn't look it up, I remembered from your description. That was a looong fucking time ago that I read that, thanks for making me remember it! It was really jarring to me as a youngster, and I'll never forget it.

I read that my Freshman year of High school too! Thank you to both of you for making me remember that story. Was there in a part in it where the healthy brother thinks about killing the handicapped one?
