If a movie series ends up with three or more movies in the series, the third movie always seems to be where it goes downhill.
Examples:
The third Matrix movie sucked the most in that series
The third Lord of the Rings movie, I also thought was the weakest
Back To the Future 3....the worst in that series
Jaws 3..... hands down the worst
Beverly Hills Cop 3......awful, just awful
I'm sure I'll think of more later...

Oh, Exorcist III, Rocky III, and the third Batman movie (although the second one wasn't that much better).

Childs Play 3.
I think it falls apart a little when there is more then 3 movies though.
Star Trek. 3 was the weakest of the first 3, in my opinion, but 5 just sucked butt.

I've always heard Exorcist 3 was really good and Excorcist 2 sucked. Batman Returns is my favorite Batman.
Rambo III.
Superman III.
Spider-Man 3.

I liked Jedi even though I have to admit it was probably the weakest movie in the original trilogy. I liked Star Trek III as well, although the best in my opinion is probably a tossup between II and IV. Star Trek V absolutely sucked butt, yes. Exorcist 2 and 3 both sucked compared to the original.

I think the Voyage Home is immensely overrated.
But III isn't really that bad, it just had to follow II which would be difficult for any movie.
And Jedi isn't that bad, it would have been much better if the second death star was built over Kashyyk like it was meant to be. Instead they had to throw it in for a couple minutes in Revenge of the Sith to make the fans feel happy.

Jedi was one of the movies of my childhood, although watching it now I have to say the ewoks are a little annoying.

I think the point at which I strongly disliked it was when I heard an interview of Harrison Ford saying he was disappointed that the movies had to end at the teddy bear picnic.
It is a good movie though. The Luke/Vader duel in that movie is the best of the entire series imo.

If the series makes it to 4 then the 4th is usually the worst.

Is it fair to put movies that were good even if they were weakest? Such as LotR 3? It was great even if you think its not the best, but weak/worst doesn't suit it. Matrix 3 was bad for example, so that can be considered.
Rocky III is much better than V, and IV is better than III.
And The Neverending Story was a stand alone movie as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed, Rocky III was better than V. IV was better than III. The third Lord of the Rings was pretty good although I have to say immensely overrated. I think my problem with it is that I found it to be a little pretentious, not to mention far too long. I mean the movie was over- half an hour before it was actually 'over'. It was just more of the same and just dragged on and on. So not to say it was 'bad', it was just my least favorite of the three.
Got to mention Terminator 3. I thought it was okay, but clearly not as good as the earlier ones.

I agree that Rocky III was better than V.
Also, I thought the second Matrix movie was better than the third.
Starwars episode III was better than I and II. Episode IV, V, and VI were better than all of the prequels though.
I thought Rambo III was better than the new one.

what? if you got used to the cowboy theme it was just as good as any other back to the future movie.

i liked all of them.
Pirates of the Carribean 3 was also good.
