No problem mate, just having fun.
Also I had a brilliant idea. A food forum. Wait let me finish. A food forum that you charge people $5 to use.

In other words, a buffet that satisfies no one?

So, I get to keep my job after all. They found a nearby location for me with no cut in pay or hours. The company as a whole is still doing very poorly though, and there's no guarantee that this location, or the company as a whole will still exist by next summer. So do expect ads on the site by the end of the year, if not sooner.
Well... hopefully. Every time I think about all the random work I need to do on the site, all the content I need to write, the future of my job, and the future in general, I get very lethargic and unmotivated.

It's good to hear that you're keeping your job! If the company is still doing poorly, you might want to be prepared and start looking into other jobs if the ship finally does sink.
Congrats, Syd!

Awesome. Maybe you're going to have to kick it into high gear and save the company one task at a time !!!

Syd, you are doing two jobs, you should be paid for both. I am happy that you get to keep your current position for a while. Maybe you can look at this as a way to pace your changes without forcing it. Commit to the alterations, but without the motive of fear.

Agreed. And honestly, unless I'm able to turn the site into a $200,000/year industry, I'll probably keep a second job, for one simple reason: healthcare.
The cheapest, most effective way to get healthcare is through employment.

Hey, from one writer to another how do you deal with writer's block? I can never seem to churn anything out if I have a deadline of any sorts, even if I plan on posting blogs on a some sort of schedule, I immediately hit a wall and cannot think of ANYTHING. I'd imagine if I actually had a website that made money all of a sudden I'd never write anything worth reading again... Do you ever get writer's block? What do you do when you get it?

Congratulations Syd. Glad to hear this.
I know we say it every time you bring something like this up, but...ads make money. Especially on a site that gets as much traffic as this one. Perhaps the prospect of a little extra cash would help you feel motivated, if continuing to provide content for the site is something you really want to do?

Very glad to hear the good news about your employment. You must be a solid, reliable worker if they laid other people off and kept you on at a different location.
Still get the ads up. SH has a point that the additional money from the site may give you added motivation to write. The articles are what draws people to the site in the first place.

1. Put ads on site
2.
3. PROFIT!
But good news about getting a job. But I agree with GP that since the future of this job is uncertain, you should continue looking around for a replacement job if you do lose it again.

When I get writer's block, I simply don't write. Sitting there staring at a screen trying to write does no good. I'll do other stuff, come back later, and try again.

I'm no writer, but I believe that's the best way to get things accomplished. If you subject yourself to deadlines, you may suppress your creativity. I'd rather read one great article in which a lot of time and effort was considered as opposed to three or more crappy articles released in the same time period.
I won't point out specific examples, but a lot of webcomics and (especially) newspaper comics are very, very terrible. I feel it's likely because they have to come up with something every single day in some cases, so you just get some 'heh' comics instead of something that really makes you think or has an excellent joke (such as Calvin and Hobbes or The Far Side).
Basically, I brought this up so that if you do indeed start doing a Podcast, don't feel like you have to make an episode every week. Just keep it on your own style and release something with quality.

Oh, shit. I had completely forgotten about those, and now they have escaped their imprisonment of the back of my brain where I hide all the crap that I don't want to remember. Nooooo!
