You don't know how exciting is to me to have a Nintendo game with ACTUAL DIALOGUE. It is very off-putting that Link speaks only in grunts and Mario only knows about five words.

More reason to have more Luigi and Wario games.

Here it is. For some reason can only find a solid embed code from a Spanish site...but doesn't affect the trailer. There only one line and it's in English anyway.

Can not wait.

WOW!

That looks really awesome, I was mildly skeptical after hearing about the control scheme, but the gameplay looks so seamless and action-packed.

I can only hope that it is not too easy, but I am really looking forward to the strong narrative.

I really hope they ditch the shitty mission-based gameplay they had in Fusion and Corruption. Those two are good games, but IMHO their gameplay style is hugely inferior to the explorative action-adventure style of Super Metroid and Prime.

Bought it. Played it for about an hour, not excited to play it again.

I played it in a BestBuy for about 5-10 minutes. Do not be confused and think that this is a 3D game. It is a 2D game that has 3 axis.

You can go forwards, backwards, up, down, far and close. There is no right or left.

The gun kinda assumes your shots to be right or left, but those three defined axis are really what you get.

I enjoyed the motion in past Metroid games much more.

Semi-fixed third person isometric viewing is a terrible idea. Who the fuck thought this was a smart way to display a game?

That's it. I'm going to crack this open tonight and prove to all you naysayers that it's fun.

I keep trying to enjoy myself with it, I love the cinematic nature of it, but it feels far too "on rails" for my taste.

They should have just made it completely 2D and play more in line with Super Metroid.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. There are a lot of mixed reviews, so I've been debating getting it. I really like classic Metroid and the GBA stuff, but I really disliked the FPS format of the Prime games.

Personally, I thought the game was awesome.
Only criticism is the forced first-person "what's wrong with this picture" puzzles.

Nothing slows down a face-paced action game than having to tediously scan every pixel in every direction until you find what the game wants you to find.

I bought it because I love Metroid. Team Ninja has turned this into something that is definitely not Metroid. I'll probably sell this to one of you jabroni's.

Like people have said, it feels completely on rails. I can't go where I want, and hell, I have a hard time even getting hurt because of the ridiculous auto aim. This is not Metroid, nor is it fun no matter how much I wanted it to be.

Essentially my take on it as well. I tried really hard to enjoy it, but it's as if you have to try to take damage.

The narrative is pretty good though.

Played this for three hours today and had a lot of fun. I'm not far enough in to give a proper opinion yet, but I'm really enjoying it a lot so far.

The only thing that's really pissed me off so far was the first time you need to examine the area and lock in on something. It took me three minutes to figure out what the hell I was supposed to do. Since then, everything's been pretty intuitive.

I am just holding out for a 2D Metroid for the DS at this point. Something with real serious depth.

A few observations:

1) A new 2D Metroid - on any platform - wouldn't be that great. The original games have since been far surpassed by Konami's Metroidvania games. A new Metroid game in the old style would never be as long, fun, or intricate as those because the "vania" half of the Metroidvania equation adds significant depth to the games.
2) People are whining about the puzzle-solving in Other M. Let me ask you this. Which scenario is better? Scenario One: you enter a room and you can't advance further until you backtrack to the complete opposite end of the game and find an item (e.g. freeze ray, super jump). Scenario Two: you enter a room and you can't advance further until you find an exit that isn't immediately obvious. The correct answer is Scenario Two, which is what Other M offers. If you said Scenario One, you're dumb.

Well Fusion was released around the time when the Metroid style Castlevanias were becoming popular (Soon after SotN and during the time when the Castleroids were being cranked out for the GBA) and it was a stellar game in my opinion. While I still think AoS and HoDissonance are better than Fusion, I think Fusion is an excellent game in its own ways. I think Nintendo could make a new 2D DS game that, even when compared against games like DoS and PoR, would be good if they tried hard enough.

By your logic, Sandbox games should never be created unless it's by Rockstar because it wouldn't be as good. No more non Tetris puzzle games, and forget about RPGs because Square Enix already makes such excellent Final Fantasy games.

Sorry about the rant. I just really want a new 2D Metroid.

And yeah, they could easily add "equipment" to the game, and customizable abilities. Call them data chips or something. They could easily make a great 2d metroid that competes with castlevania if they wanted to break the mold a bit.

I like Prince of Persia as much as the next guy, but I also like Zelda games. They are polar oposites when it comes to the same exact type of thing you mention here. Immediate puzzles and demanded itemization are both key to making good game. It isn't option A or option B and then if you choose B you are dumb. It is :

A + B / Reasonable amount of time + Reasonable amount of skill.

Also, I prefer the Metroid theme to Castlevania. I am fine with added customization coming into the Metroid world, but I would rather it be the Metroid world.
