Fairly self-explanatory. The advent of MAME as well as the rise of straight arcade ports of classic games on home consoles have given us the opportunity to coin farm our way to victory. So, what are some classic games you've never beaten without coin farming, Game Genie, or other various cheats?

For me, the list includes:

Rolling Thunder
Bad Dudes
The Simpsons Arcade Game

I'm not saying you have to 1CC games like these, but somewhere between Coin #11 and Coin #50, you've lost any semblance of even basic skills.

Duke nukem 3d. "Come get some" mode is hard enough to be fun, even if i can only get halfway through. Must be why I talk about the game so much.

Dodonpachi. One of my favorite shooters, but hard as hell.

Really? I always found mega man 2 to be one of the easiest ones even on difficult.

Between coin #11 and #50, many arcade games have become possessed by Baron Von Tokenmuncher from Carnevil and exist solely to rape your wallet.

Let's see:

Double Dragon
Mortal Kombat/II
Robocop
Any Metal Slug beyond the first

D&D: Shadows of Mystara.
Gauntlet and its many incarnations.

Doom, Wolf3D (beat both once, now "trying to" beat them again), Return to Castle Wolfenstein, while we're at it... The first Quake, Wario Land 3, Pokemon (the closest I ever got to finishing a Pokemon game was coming right up against Red in Silver and then getting my ass promtply beat. Currently grinding my Gold team), various Zelda games with the proud exception of Minish Cap, the first Metroid.

You should totally check out the IRC channel.
While you're at it, go check out my band, Her Majesty's Heroines.

I got pretty good at Metal Slug as well as Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X. I got to the point where I could make it to Final Mission in all three games on 1-2 lives. After that though, forget it. Fuck you, Final Mission.

Oops, I forgot that I did beat Metal Slug 2 with a buddy at the arcade. Cost about $5.00 to beat.

Damn, I'd need a lot more practice for that.

Any Konami or Capcom side-scrolling beat em up at the Arcade:

All the TNMT games.
The Simpsons
Aliens
AvP
AD&D: Shadows Over Mystara & Tower Of Doom

It takes me 20+ credits to beat any of those. I have hit the credit button so many times, that even right now I can still hear the echoy sounds of "Cowabunga!" in my head.

These two are a total ripoff to play in the arcade. The red dragon boss in Tower of Doom easily takes $3 by himself to beat, let alone the rest of the game.

Great call on Gauntlet, Sathien. Particularly the first NES one. I played the hell out of it and got pretty decent, but it just seemed impossible to beat let alone progress far in the game.

How about NES Contra with the Konami code?

I haven't met anyone in person who's beat it legit. The Vertical level alone usually does most people in.
