From the sounds of it, the woman just happened to search for her daughter's name on Facebook and found her profile. After exchanging messages with the girl, the mother contacted the office of San Bernardino Deputy District Attorney Kurt Rowley. The folks there were able to establish that the children were in Florida and move them into the custody of the Department of Children and Families after arresting the father.
The children have since then been put into the custody of their Facebook-savvy mother. |

It's cool she found them and all, but is it really going to be cool with them? You've suddenly got a seventeen and a sixteen year old who don't know you but who're remanded to your custody and who are on the other side of the country from all of their friends and every familiar face. The daughter's got to be what, a junior or senior in high school? Don't you think there was a point she stopped giving a shit about where Mommy was? I would've.

The article doesn't clarify the other side of the story such as the personalities or conflict between the husband and wife, but in a few years the children will end up on whatever replaces Oprah's show and we will hear from them exactly what went on.
I feel like i just saw a CSI episode that was based on this premise.

How do these kind of "kidnappings" happen? Unless the father changes his own name/social security number/ etc and those of the children, how exactly do you disappear with them for 15 years and no one can ever track you down? Is it really that easy?
