So The Maine Human Rights Commissions has moved forward with a proposal that would ban male and female bathrooms in schools and make them all unisex, this includes locker rooms and showers too. They argue that by forcing kids to use a specific bathroom based on gender amounts to discrimination.
Another recent story, there was a topless women protest in the street in Portland, MA. It is already legal for a women to be topless in MA, but they were still protesting because of society's double standard that it is acceptable for a man to be without a shirt but it is inappropriate for a woman to do so. The most bizarre thing about the whole incident is that the women were actually surprised and shocked by all the male gawkers who stared at them and took pictures with their phones, and they all felt very offended.

I wish they would have passed this law in Missouri when I was in HS.

I knew that sounded too stupid to be true. Leave it to Fox News to strive to be only slightly more accurate than The Onion.
This is not a proposal to eliminate gendered bathrooms in schools. It's a proposal that would allow transgender students to use the bathroom and locker room of the gender they identify with.
Try reading the proposal, which completely doesn't mention eliminating sex segregated bathrooms and locker rooms at all.
It's an issue that deserves debate in and of itself, but it's not even close to the one that the article implies it is.

Oh well it was my understanding that transgender students could already use the bathroom or locker room of the gender they identify with, ever since that incident happened last year. The proposal on that link could very well be the one already currently in place. A representative of the Maine Human Rights Commissions is going to be on Megyn Kelly's program "America Live" on Fox tomorrow sometime during the day to argue their case. I will set it to record tomorrow on my DVR so we can get this straightened out. If Fox tried to make it sound like they were doing away with girl/boy bathrooms in schools when it was not the case then what they wrote was a mistruth. Fox is very biased and opinionated but I doubt that they would blatantly lie about this.
In any case, isn't it a little creepy that places in this country are starting to consider a 12 year old boy mature enough to decide that they want to be a girl, and if that is the case, why don't we allow them to take estrogen pills and have sex changes also?

If you have both parts they should go with whatever gender they look most like. I saw a girl with a beard at school the other day. Fucking creepy...Boobs and everything...

Nope. That's the one they're proposing.
This is standard conservative over-reaction to a simple thing they don't like. They're playing off the inherit squickyness most people have towards transgender students, and turning "boys who want to be girls should be allowed to use the girls's bathroom" to "OMFG THEY'RE GONNA MAKE ALL BATHROOMS IN SCHOOLS UNIZEX!!!!!!". And it's completely intentional. Sort of like how gay marriage supposedly degenerates into people marrying animals.

Oh yes they would. They have a reputation for a reason.

I've been thinking about this ever since I saw a Law and Order: SVU episode about it. And honestly, yeah, I think it's creepy.
If you want to be a boy who wears dresses and lipstick and call yourself a girl's name, I can live with that. But you're male. Find a way to deal with cope, just like everyone else copes with their own problems.

I don't think kids or that age are able to determine if they need gender reassignment, isn't that stuff highly regulated?

The issue in that SVU episode was the transgender kid wanted to take hormones to stop puberty so he didn't develop male characteristics. Then, when he came of age, he would have the surgery.
Mom was OK with it, daddy wasn't so cool.

They exaggerate all the time, but they are pretty good about not telling lies that are not debatable, they always leave room for argument. There so many watchdog groups out there who scrutinize and look at that network with a magnifying glass. They are aware of this and that is why it is hard to catch them in a bold face lie, however their competition always seems to be a fact checker's wet dream.

Exaggeration by a news organizaton is the equivalent of lying. But even if you don't buy that, they have been caught lying quite often. The problem is the majority of their viewers don't go to other news outlets to see just how appalling FOX news really is. Unfortunately, ideals and personal feelings win out over facts for many FOX viewers.

I am very curious about what news outlets/channels/magazines/websites you recommend that people cross reference to come to the conclusion that Fox news is appalling. I'm sure they are 100% honest and have no bias whatsoever.
But seriously I don't think Fox News or any other cable news network should be a source of information that people should shape and form their opinions by, and its unfortunate that people make that mistake.
Like I said before, we will hear it in their own words tomorrow when someone from the Maine Human Rights Commissions appears on Fox tomorrow.

It's not about being biased. Unfortunately, it's true that most news outlets have some sort of slant. But FOX has morphed more into entertainment than information. If they were simply biased I wouldn't give a crap. What's funny is they are unbelievably biased while claiming to be 'Fair and Balanced' and the stories they focus on are chosen primarily to satisfy their base viewer. My initial and most important point: they deliberately omit facts and exaggerate stories, and when a news organization does that it's called 'lying'. Blatant lying.

Klimbatize pretty much has it right on.
I mean, yeah, every news outlet does things similar to this., but Fox News does it blatantly and unashamedly.
I mean, look at the title of the article. "Maine Commission Moves to Ban Gender Specific Bathrooms, Sports Teams in Schools". It's true only, only, only on the sense that the motion will prohibit a very small number of school children of one biological gender from being excluded from the restrooms and sports teams of the gender they present themselves as.
I mean, it's like titling an article "Man shot by police officer and dies", when the man was shot by a police officer...who was his friend...with a BB gun...by mistake...five years ago...and died in a car crash yesterday. Sure, it's true. Technically. But it's not what happened.

First of all, lets clear something up.
The state abbreviation for Massachusetts is MA.
The state abbreviation for Maine is ME.
As for the law about toplessness, I personally feel that if men can go without a shirt, so can women. The only thing I mean by this is that there should be no criminal case against someone who doesn't wear a shirt. Rules, such as those held by businesses, schools, and organizations still have the right to be upheld.
I think it is ridiculous though that a woman could be prosecuted in some states for not wearing a cover over her nipples. It does seem as though that is what constitutes toplessness. Throw some pasties on a girl and she is no longer topless. At least that is what TV has me believing.

Thank you Usa. Indeed, people need to read their news stories beyond the bloody headline.
Also, FOX news is really really deceptive. I mean, think of it like this; that most news sources have a slight liberal bias because most journalists are liberal, FOX news has a strong conservative bias because Rupert Murdoch specifically created it as a way to push his own political stance.

this transgender convo reminds me of this article i read a while ago http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jan/12/spanish-teenager-transsexual-operation
| Quote: |
A Spanish clinic today revealed it had performed a male-to-female sex-change operation on a 16-year-old, making her the youngest patient to undergo the operation in the country's history.
The unnamed teenager had been taking hormones to change her body since she was 15, according to doctors who treated her at Barcelona's hospital clínico, and she had been seeing doctors and psychiatrists for even longer. "The patient has been in treatment for nearly three years," said the surgeon who carried out the operation, Dr Iván Mañero.
A sex-change operation on a minor requires the approval of a Spanish court to override a law that sets the minimum age for such operations as 18.
That permission was given in November by a judge after the the child's parents had themselves made the request. The operation was carried out in December, though news of it was only released on Monday.
The teenager had reportedly tried to commit suicide on several occasions. As a child she was convinced that she was really female, but had been born in the wrong body.
"The judge consulted many medical experts and doctors, all of whom have recommended that he be operated on … she is very happy," Mañero told El País. |

In my state they prosecute topless baristas in drive through coffee stands all the time for having pasties over their nipples, they have to have a bonafide bikini top for it to be OK.
Also, I think the only reason to keep women in their shirts is because the majority of men would go apeshit over all the unrestrained boobage, and start jeering and taking pictures and being generally annoying. Is that particularly fair, to hinder one group because of the stupidity of the other group? No, not at all.

not really. tribes in africa run around topless and they dont seem to be all batshit crazy.
and fuck that running around topless shit. its sexier to conceal, than to reveal. and, bras keep tits perky. if they stopped wearing bras, that would make them all saggy and unattractive.

You sound very confident that the evil Fox News network is misleading us to believe that the Maine Humans Rights Commissions is trying to abolish gender bathrooms in schools. We will find out when they speak for themselves tomorrow, which is one of the things Fox does more than any other cable news channel, reasoned debate. I dare anyone to prove otherwise.
So let us make a bet, if MHRC is indeed suggesting that having male & female bathrooms is discrimination, I want your signature to be "phantasmzombie is always right and should never be questioned", for a week. If I am wrong, it just wouldn't be fair for me to have a sig of your choosing because I don't post nearly as much as you do. So, if Fox is lying through their teeth on this story then I will send you 50$ American.

Ya but trubes in Africa are used to that, that's what their culture is. It's not unusual to them, it's different for teenagers and college kids in North America. That's my theory anyway because the tribes seem alright but I think North American male youth would go a little batshit crazy if girls started going topless.
