The iPad is awesome! It's like the second coming of Apple Newton, the most well-received, highest selling PDA of all-time.
Why, people still talk about how awesome the Apple Newton was TO THIS VERY DAY!
Oh, they don't?
Oh, then I guess the iPad sucks and will fail miserably once the hype dies.

The Blendtec Total Blenders cost $400 a pop, so the Will it Blend? folks have spare cash to throw around on buying whatever the newest gadget is and blending it. To me, that got pretty old quite some time ago. I really liked it when they blended things other than phones and other electronic gadgets, like light bulbs, fake diamonds, or glow sticks.

For those who aren't familiar, the Will it Blend series is an advertisement. They are selling Blendtec blenders.
The idea is that the blenders are pretty much indestructible and can blend anything you put in them without breaking.
The iPad is probably the cheaper $500 model while the blender is an $800 unit.
Considering how much a normal advertisement costs to make, this seems pretty cheap by comparison.

^ Actually I didn't know that. But even so--that does not make me want to buy a blender. It makes me disgusted at the pointlessness of the destruction.

I like how they say "Don't try this at home". As if anyone would do this, and secondly if they don't want us to do this, then why are they doing it? It's kind of stupid to show how to blend stuff that you're not supposed to blend or want your customers to blend. It's one thing to show how strong something is, but since this is a campaign they're still doing, it's pretty fucking pointless.

That was my very first thought too. I mean...why? Shoving something in a blender has neither a point, nor entertainment value. |
I think it's an advertisment for a blender. see, by showing how the blender can destroy all that oppose it, it makes people want to buy the blender because it's reliable. by having funny things like this for us to talk about, it makes sure that we remember the blender, and fear it. this way the next time we decide to buy a blender, we'd have this one in our minds, as opposed to another blender, which has a less interesting and less memorable commercial.

If I'm not in the market for a blender, I am less likely to pay attention to commercials about one. By continuing to advertise in this manner, people will continue to see the blender, and when they want to buy one, they will have it fresh in their mind.

I don't know what to tell you then. I guess you aren't the average consumer or something. My apologies for being wrong about a corporation's advertising campaign.

Appearently it works for them so I say bravo. There's some ads that stick in your head for all the wrong reasons, like by being super fucking annoying, effectively backfiring and assuring that I will never buy their product as long as I live.

at least they didn't have that song playing in the background, like almost every commercial nowadays.

I don't know what song you're talking about. I'm afraid to ask out of fear that I will know once I hear it and regret asking what song it was.

I see no problem. Blendtec wants an iPad, after paying or making some form of compensation to Apple, Blendtec gets their iPad, at which point it becomes their property and can do whatever the fuck they want with it, in this case using it to sell some blenders.
ETA: I stopped watching the "will it blend" vids a while ago when they referred to those easily blendable Ceramic magnets as "Neodymium magnets", which they totally weren't. Either they lied or don't know jack about magnets, either way it made them look bad to me.

This is why I didn't post the song. I'm not THAT much of an asshole.

I wouldn't mind having an iPad but I'll wait a while to get one if I ever do. This is first generation Apple hardware and you know it will be redesigned not far down the road to be better and cost the same or less than the first generation one. Look at the iPod and iPhone, they both got better versions really quickly.

Yeah, but you don't need a blender to make Jack and Coke. Unless you're stupid or something.
