Quote:
A hacker who gained fame for unlocking Apple's iPhone when he was a teen now claims he's managed to hack the Playstation 3 too.

George Hotz said the hack took him five weeks to figure it out. He says he's planning on sharing the details online soon, when he's ironed out a couple of creases, and when he does, PSĀ£ users could be able to run pirated games and homemade software.

Weirdly, figuring out the hack seems to have caused Hotz to take to speaking like a comic book evil villain.

"It's supposed to be unhackable - but nothing is unhackable," Mr Hotz told BBC News.
"I can now do whatever I want with the system. It's like I've got an awesome new power - I'm just not sure how to wield it."

There's also this guy named Bob. He's an electrical genius; one time he turned his mom's vibrator into a CD player using some chicken-wire and shit.

So he hacks a PS3 and his first course of action is to brag about it to the BBC...

Is it illegal to hack a device? Or just to play pirated stuff on it? It seems to me that hacking it should be legal, as you're just opening it up and messing with it, right? It's yours to do whatever you want with.

All hacking a hardware system does is voids your warranty. Nothing illegal with that. It's how you use the hacks that makes it legal or not.

They'll probably keep an eye on him then. Can't they do something over PSN?

Good grief. NOTHING is unhackable at this stage. Even pretending that's the case just sets you up as a target. You'd think Sony knows that.

By declaring your Hardware/Software/Website unhackable, you have just challenged every hacker in the world to fuck up your shit.
