You know, I appreciate the effort here and it is kinda cute, but using the full FF VII soundtrack just kills the mood. If that had 8-bitted the music and used that instead, THAT would have been uber-win.

True, but I think the Chinese guy making this game was too lazy to do 8-bit music to go with the 8-bit graphics.

That music would be possible on the SNES.

It was all done in Midi with ADPCM sources with up to 24 channels and up to 44.1 kHz sampling rate.

The SNES can do 16-bit ADPCM, 8 channels at 32 kHz 16-bit stereo.

The music might be grainier, but otherwise would sound the same. Most of the soundtrack never used more than 4 or 5 channels at once. (Beat, Bass, "Brass", "Strings", and "Vocals")

had something to do with them wanting to use the full space on the CDs for the graphics, right?

Wasn't this FF7 project actually released as a bootleg NES cartridge a few years back?

Point totally taken (interesting fact btw.) Except that this was supposed to be on the *NES* not the SNES. I wouldn't have nearly the issue with it if they had used 16 bit graphics instead. After all, some 16 bit games have the finest soundtracks out there (FF VI for example). But this was supposed to be NES, which was much more bleep/boop. (Right?)

That, and frankly I think an 8-bit sound version of these famous songs would be kickass too.

frankly, I think the entire idea of making a game like final fantasy 7 with awful graphics is kinda pointless.

there are good looking NES games, and then there are this. Final fantasy 7 doesn't deserve that.

I think it would actually be fun to play a version like that, however I'd probably get bored with it after about an hour.

With all of the old games being "updated", I think the idea of taking newer ones and downgrading them is interesting. But personally, while I think taking it back to NES is a good novelty, if they were going to do it seriously, I would prefer it to be more like SNES. I think FFVI has aged very well. Even though I love VII, I just don't think it has aged well.

I never heard about it, but if somebody did, I need to get it. That is exactly what I was talking about.

It was in an older PSM magazine it got the no talent writers the Official one has now... It looked pretty good, but they had to sacrafice the backgrounds on the world map so that it was able to hold the whole game. I haven't been able to find it since I first read the little Tidbit on it.

There have been attempts at 16-bit remakes of Ocarina of Time and Metroid Prime, but I think Nintendo sued and got them both shutdown.

I guess the multi-billion dollar company known as Nintendo can't afford to lose 20 bucks here and there.

Another 16-bit Metroid would be awesome. Seeing as how the 16-bit generation is about as far as I ever got in the video game world.
