Ok I got a PS3 180g for Christmas this year. I have a old non-hd fat TV. I hooked up the PS3 using the AV cable. I did everything I am suppose to do to set up the PS3. When I turn the PS3 on nothing shows up on the screen. I am on the right Tv setting and everything. The PS3 isn't making any strange noises and the light on it is green. What is wrong with it? Sad

Strange noises is never good, but I have no specific knowledge of the PS3. You got it new with a warranty right?

Are you using the normal yellow and white cables or are you using the HD ones? I dunno man, I don't have a PS3 so I'm just guessing shit.

Well, no. My mom was cheap and she bought it from her trusted friend. She says it worked when she tested it.

Josh I am 100% sure I'm not using the HD cable.

Try changing the tv input. For example, on my tv I have to go to channel '00' to play my wii and ps2 since it's an old crt tv.

Didn't you say it is NOT making strange noises?

If the system seems to be working, then it's defintely something to do with the connections. Double check that you've put them in the right inputs, are using the correct cabling, the TV is on the right channel or AV setting, etc. Try it on a different TV if you can to at least rule out the possibility of the PS3 not working.

Maybe the TV is just too old, but I reall doubt that. I'm sure if the PS3 works, then it's something to do with your connections somewhere.

The console itself looks, sounds and acts completely normal. I have tried it on TV1, 2, 3, channel 3 and more. Right now I think it might be the AV cord.

If she bought it from her friend I'm willing to bet that it was hooked up to a HDTV and is retaining whatever settings they used. What you need to do is hold down the power button when you turn it on until you hear the system beep a second time. After the second beep let go and let the system boot. Doing this resets the display settings and makes the system search for the optimum settings.

what asmodeous 667 would be the correct step to take, if nothing happens test it on another tv. BTW have you played consoles on this TV before?

If you bought the PS3 in store, there's a chance that it might have been used on an HDTV beforehand. If everyone in this topic would have stopped acting like meme spouting jerks, you probably would have your answer.

If you know what input channel it needs to be on, try holding down the ON button when you turn it on until it beeps a second time, this will restart the PS3's internal A/V settings.

I had a problem similar to this once with a fairly new 80g PS3, I tried everything possible... holding the reset button until the second beep, tried it on different televisions, even bought a new adaptor. When this didn't work I called the Sony technical support and they just repeated the same obvious steps I'd tried a million times over, so I gave up on 'em and took it to Radioshack only to find out the motherboard was fried.

I'm not suggesting this is what is wrong with your PS3, but it's a possibility seeing as what you described was the same problems I was having and in the end I had to get a new PS3.

If the motherboard was fried the system wouldn't turn on at all. Never believe people at radioshack. They don't know crap. I repair PS3's and XBOX 360's for a living and have to deal with issues like that on a daily basis.

I like how you could have added 2.5 hours of playing time by just reading the troubleshooting guide (assuming you have it, of course).
