Rejoice at its 12 character roster and broken gameplay!

Honestly, I am kind of excited. I didn't "get" this game when it came out, but having loved Melee and almost loved Brawl, I'd like to give it a second chance.

The original Smash Bros. is nice to play for nostalgia (and the stages), but in the face of Melee and Brawl, that's all it's good for to me.

The first one brings back so many bittersweet memories. I'm excited for this but this doesn't change the fact that they haven't released Earthbound yet.

I still prefer Melee to them all but it's funny you say you didn't "get it" when it came out. And I was the same way...looked like Nintendo was trying WAY too hard. This was also at the time where I had basically forgotten about N64 and was playing a bunch of kickass games for Playstation.

Anyways, my friend gets a Gamecube for Christmas in 2003 and after watching him play Mario Sunshine (which happens to be my favorite 3D Mario game), I squeezed out the money and got one. I end up buying Melee for the hell of it...and wow...awesome game. I ended up going back and filling a lot of holes in my N64 collection and the original was pretty fun, but after being exposed to Melee...it's not even close. And while I really liked Brawl, I just didn't think go out of it's way to dwarf Melee enough. Getting rid Dr. Mario was a mistake...at least make it an alternate costume for Mario, like they did for Wario.

Man Dodd, Mario Sunshine is my favorite 3D Mario game ever too. I hate when people talk it down when in fact it's such a great game.

Actually I completely missed out on Melee, so between the two I much prefer Brawl.

Yeah, the programmers were all like "No clones!" and then they gave us Toon Link and TWO Star Fox clones! I would have loved to be able to play as Dr. Mario. Plus, since they gave Mario FLUDD, Dr. Mario would have actually been significantly more unique than Wolf, Falco, or Toon Link.

Dr. Mario as an alt for Mario would have been kind of interesting.

I like the gameplay of Melee of the most, but the roster in Brawl is pretty fun.

Playing as Squirtle is great, and I also love using Sonic.

I played the crap out of Super Smash Bros. back in the day, but there's no way I'm going back to it after Melee.

The original is still a fan favorite around here because every character is overpowered as hell.

It's ridiculous how terrible Ness, Falcon, and Jigglypuff are now compared to their original versions.

Jigglypuff too! It used to be, as long as you were fairly close with Jigglypuff, Rest would connect and fucking LAUNCH the opponent. It was practically a guaranteed KO on anyone with more than 20% damage on them. In Melee, Rest was still a decent KO move, but you had to be a lot more precise with it. Then in Brawl, you had to be even MORE precise, and on top of that, they complete nerfed its damage and launch.

Ness was great because unless you flat out KO'd him, he could come back from any distance by repeatedly hitting himself with his thunder. They fixed that Melee. They've also toned down his Kraken Bat over the years.

The bat used to be almost exactly like the Home Run Bat crit. Damn, I'm smelling the nostalgia now. I've been trying to track down this game on N64 at a good price for months (fuck younger me for selling off his N64. I still haven't restored my library completely).

Not sure if it's unallowed to be discussed here, but that's why emulators exist. As long as you've owned the game and system, it's perfectly legal anyway. I've had so many memories re-experienced thanks to emulators. It's like going to heaven and skipping the whole dying part.

Well, I never owned SSB. And I find that many games are better when you can't save and load at will. Everyone should play SMB2J on the FDS or Wii VC. A lot more challenging and fun when you can't cheat with insta-saves.

Fox does not Equal Wolf, at all. That's like saying Ryu equals Gouken. As a fox player who has a friend who is almost exclusively a falco player, I can tell you that they definitely aren't clones anymore. Not even just in properties of the moves, but even the animations themselves. It's like how Ryu and Ken have progressed. Sure they both throw fireballs and have dragon punches, but the moves act differently, and all of the normals and combos are completely different. They really worked hard on brawl to make sure any characters that COULD be considered clones didn't feel like that anymore, as opposed to gannondorf just being a better cap. falcon and pichu being a weaker pikachu.

Dr. Mario was going to be included, but was cut due to time constraints. I believe some of his data is actually still on the disc, along with Roy and a few others. I, too, would have liked Dr. Mario's inclusion, but I'd much rather have all of the new and unique characters that I did get.

Although I can see your point and agree wholeheartedly, I would have torn my fucking hair out and climbed a clock tower if I had to beat SMB2J on an real Nintendo. Sad
