I hate dealing with tech support, but the internal motor on my PS2 (which causes discs to spin) is fried, and I have to send it in.

So far, I have ran into two problems

1). The online service request for absolutely fucking REFUSES to accept my physical adress as a valid adress, despite the fact that Ive entered the EXACT SAME THING on Amazon for UPS and Fedex to ship to.

2). Since that doesn't work, I've been instructed to call into Sony consumer services(i sent a support email), after spending an hour trying to get a live warm body I was instructed to send a FUCKING EMAIL. god damnit.

I've never had to, but I almost did. My freshman year of college, I met a guy and told me what to do with my problem. There was dust on the hard drive that wouldn't let it read the game. The only problem was that after I opened it up, I wouldn't be able to resell it. So I took the thing apart and wiped it off, and sure enough it worked fine.

Of course, 3 years later a very large TV I had it hooked up to, broke the TV stand it was sitting on and absolutely shattered my PS2 and came within inches smashing my Wii.

Nope, never dealt with Sony repair. Just look for a used one at a pawn shop. Might be easier and nt too expensive I believe

I never have. My PS2 has an almost unholy resistance to damage. It's taken so much abuse over the years, from being stepped on, having controllers dropped on it, having cords yanked out, and in one instance actually falling the 2.5 - 3 feet from the top of my TV stand while playing and not freezing. I got it for Christmas in 2001 or 2002, and its still running strong. (PS2 controllers, however, are another beast entirely.

PS2's are easy to buy nowadays, I'd rather not go through the trouble and perhaps pay just as much if not more for repairs.

I went through 3.

2nd most unrealiable system I've ever owned.

The first?
PS1. I've owned 5 of them. (Though I still have three that work [mostly])

Agreed about PS2

But PS1 never failed on me even when I would play dirty rented games or yank a game out,

If it's the slim model, you're going to be set, but the old fat model just sucked after about 2 years of use.

Yep, they were out and stop reading DVDs eventually. The funny thing is my 1st PS2 could still read CD games (Both PS2 and PS1), but refused to read DVD-ROMs and Movies.

My 1st PS1 was the orignal model. (7001), I was great for about 2 years, but then it stopped working until I turned it on its side. Then about 3 moths later, I had to turn it upside down to get it to work, and then about 3 months later, dead.

The only problem I've had with a PS1/PS2 is that the thing that holds the discs and spins in the console always came off. Eventually my sister pulled a disc too hard and it broke in a bunch of pieces.

Controllers are another story, though. Almost every single one of my controllers has a broken button.
One is R2, another is the left arrow, another is the down arrow, and another is the X button.
I only have like 2 controllers working properly.

I've never had problems with controllers...I treat them with respect

Except for my banana yellow N64 controller that I smashed to pieces after I couldn't pass the beaver game in Donkey Kong 64. Good thing I found a replacement for cheap.

Do you have a warranty on your PS2? If not, I would guess the repair cost wouldn't be worth the trouble. You can buy them brand new for $100.

I think mine just crapped out.

I turned on the system and it refuses to play discs...it just sits there. I don't know if I have the same problems as Kojjiro, but it really pisses me off because I'm trying to see if this game I bought works. I tried several other games before it, so it's definately gotta be the system. It starts up, but it doesn't even attempt to read the disc. Sorta eerie if the same thing happened to me as Kojjiro.

I've been fortunate enough to have had the same PS2 since December of 2002, and it's been working fine for me since.

My PS2 is a first-generation system I got used from my ex-GF's younger brother. Still going strong, somehow.

Hey, funny story.

Just for the hell of it, I unplugged my PS2 and smacked the shit out of it, plugged it back in and now it's working fine. Maybe you should try the same thing if you're having problems.

I agree w/ a few of the other people on this thread. You're better off just buying another one. The repair would cost equal to, if not more, than buying a new one.

If it's the spindle motor it may just need a good cleaning and some new lube (vegetable oil works great!). DVD drives rarely use motors anymore, most are ran magnetically like a computer fan and just need cleaned out after collecting too much dust inside. I have at least one xbox 360 come in with this issue each week.

You should turn your keyboard upside down.

There's a really cool optical illusion if you turn your monitor upside down, then hold the keyboard above your upturned face and then flip it over, after flipping look back at the monitor.
