Starting a band, and we're looking for a drum machine, but we have no idea what to look for. Any suggestions on which drum machines to buy? Also, what's a good price for a drum machine? We've checked out eBay and trading posts and stuff, but they're pretty inconsistent, so I assume the price depends on how good it is.

I remember hearing that DJX is a pretty good drum machine. It might be spelled DJ-X, though. I forget.

Just don't buy one at a garage sale. That was the strangest sounding drum machine ever!

Order a pizza from your local pizza place. A drum machine will deliver it to you.

Alesis makes probably the best new/current drum machines

Roland/boss makes some slightly cheaper/almost as good models

go to musiciansfriend.com and search for "drum machine" prices range from like $150 to way out of my price range. check out the customer reviews and go to your local guitar center and play around with the drum machines they have there. the only way you'll learn about em is to get some hands on experience. you may want to think about getting a keyboard to be honest...it will have drum sounds and any other instrument you would want.

i too am more than meets the eye

if you decide to go with a keyboard...get a Roland, we use them in Music Comp and they have amazing drum sounds, and sound effects

Pac-Man that all depends on what kind of sound and what you would like to be capable of doing with the drum machine

If you're looking for something cheap, but functional, I'd recommend the Alesis SR-16. It's really cheap, easy to use and pretty versatile for something that'll only set you back around £40/$65.
