I heard Rob Zombie's next project is going to be a remake of The Blob. I think that is very unnecessary, since it already has a remake from the 80s that was halfway decent.

In its defense, House of 1000 Corpses was supposedly cut to shit. The film was finished done in 2000, and Universal Studios Hollywood and Rob Zombie had a Maze of 1000 Corpses designed for their 2000 Halloween Horror Nights to promote it. Then Universal saw the final cut of the movie and started to get nervous. They submitted for a rating, and it came back with NC-17. They told Rob Zombie to re-cut it for an R rating, which he did. Then they refused to release it anyway. It wouldn't be released until 2003, through Lions Gate.
Another thing to note is that Dr. Satan was never meant to actually appear in the movie, but the studio forced Zombie to include him. He is not mentioned or shown at all in the original trailer:
This is why Dr. Satan is not mentioned at all in The Devil's Rejects; Zombie hated the character. Grandpa Hugo was not featured in the sequel because the actor who played him died. The original, NC-17 cut of House of 1000 Corpses has never been released, which leads me to believe it might not still exist, because there's certainly a market for it. But I bet Rob Zombie still has a workprint, and there's some sort of legal issues. We may never get see Rob Zombie's original vision.
Tthe movie, as it is, is a very good rip-off of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. But it's still a rip-off of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Whoa, I never realized that the Firefly house was also the Chicken Ranch in "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas". Neat.
But anyways, "House of 1000 Corpses" was meant to be a shocking, exploitation film and nothing more. It certainly excels at that but of course it's not for everyone. I didn't like it and expected to HATE "Devil's Rejects". I was pleasantly pleased to see that Rob Zombie made a completely different kind of movie.
I will go to my grave defending "Devil's Rejects" as one of the best horror and road movies of all time.

I just read that the Weinsteins are planning on making another Halloween movie to come out next year. Rob Zombie will not be involved and it will be in 3-D. I guess this is the new trend in horror movies, ie: My Bloody Valentine-Final Destination.

Not the Blob! The 58 movie was great, the 88 version just bloodied and sexed it up to get the public to like it. I can only imagine another remake would have the blob as a sort of gooey CGI humanoid monster gunning down horny teenagers with an assault rifle and absorbing the corpses, effectively turning this unique little film into EVERY HORROR MOVIE EVER MADE.

I'm fucking sick of 3D. Honestly, it's not that impressive, I don't see why all the movies are waving it around like some giant cock. "Oh, check out my 3D, suck it consumers!"
Ah fuck, I must be having a food buzz. Sorry guys.

I just hope that who ever they get to direct the project has a decent body of work. Alexander Aha or Lucky McKee would be good choices.

I'll be seeing this movie in about an hour. Some friends from work want to see it so I'm going also.
Edit-Just got back from seeing it and it was entertaining. It was not really all that scary but I still enjoyed it.

I dunno, I kind of think The Blob of all monsters is the most deserving of being fully CGI. It may ruin movies with overuse, but what better way to portray a giant amorphous slime monster? It should definitely remain a mindless space booger though, no stupid sub plot of it gaining sentience from the people it eats or something.
EDIT: Am I the only one that can't get Escapist vids to embed? I've had this problem before--I post the correct code, and it looks fine, but the in the preview the final "" is cut off, and no amount of monkeying around with it will make that damn thing show up.
Hawk, i think you introduced me to a whole new section of the Escapist to kill time and i thank you.
I've seen spoony's review and while the review is interesting, to be honest Horror movies in general are not my cup of tea. However, i will agree that if the original movie works then don't try to remake it to appeal to a new generation. Make something that's a little more original (if there is such a thing in the horror genre). How do you think a generation of movie goers fed remakes are going to think when they look back and see the originals.
"Dude, we so got screwed by hollywood."
I still think Hollywood would make just as much money re-releasing the original movie to theaters today uncut and only polished. You know, i'd like to know. Would any of you go see the original Halloween if it was re-released into theaters, provided that the price for a ticket was the equivalent of a rental.
Links, pics, vids . . . I shall post these when given the chance

They did re-release Halloween in theaters a few years ago, I think for the 20th or 25th anniversary, might have been select theaters.

Every character that was decent from the first movie got worse somehow. It is hard to explain unless you see it. The plot holes will annoy you.
I thought Halloween 07 was actually a pretty good reboot and Zombie should have just left that movie to stand on its own. This movie didn't really add anything and was just an excuse to milk a franchise.
That said, it is watchable at least and I agree with that Movieblob review about the scenes of awesome creativity, then going the opposite of total suckage to fill time.

SPOILERS
I just saw this and I have to say it wasn't as good as I expected it to be. In the beginning when they were going through all the shit with the white horse and Michael seeing his Mom again, I thought it was going to be an interesting take on the story. Like maybe it would be more trippy with a lot of these dreamy sequences. But all the parts with his Mom just felt really stupid and boring. I didn't really like it, it was just really meh. I can't think of anything else to say about it...just....blah.

the only scene in the movie that bothered me was when he killed the black nurse. I thought it was done in bad taste and almost made me walk out. I hate when someone who a decent person in the movie has to get a brutal treatment from Zombie's Myers. Horror 101 shows your suppose to really punish the bad people.
I felt the same way in the first one where Zombie has the nice Indian guy killed. It also bothered me too even though I liked the rest of the movie.
Zombie is a genius on one level, but also very sadistic to the point where its not cool and just disturbing sometimes.

I would just love to see zombie do a prequel movie for the house of 1000 corpses / The Devils Rejects. The back story on the characters is pretty interesting stuff. I mean they got kicked out of a satanic cult for being too violent amongst other things for gods sake (hence the sequels name). That's a film I would watch.
