So like, remember Brawl? Remember how it sucks and you haven't played it months? Well, now it can be whatever you want it to be.
Meet Brawl Plus. Brawl Plus is a code patch run through the Homebrew Channel that modifies the gameplay. There are several variants of it, here is one of the most popular ones: http://brawlplus.net/changelist/
Tripping is gone, the game is faster, and aerial combat is back. Most of the changes make sense. Some do not. For example, look at the level changes. Those are all dumb. I am not entirely sure, as I do not currently have Homebrew, but I believe you can pick and choose which code variants you want to activate. I really, REALLY want to try this out.
But here's the best part: people are already working on additional characters for the game. All the cut characters from Melee are expected to be added in at some point, along with a Classic Mario who doesn't use FLUDD.

Well i can't say i was aware of those problems in the first place since i don't own the game.
Though i ordered it for my sister for her birthday. So maybe i will see these problems myself, though it will probably just be left as it is until she gets bored of it.

If I am reading correctly, yes, so long as you are playing against someone using the same settings and build.
You can also still boot Brawl up normally and do that multiplayer.

The whole mod was made by elitist idiots who don't know how to cope with the game or just stick to Melee, and I really don't care about the patch itself, but the characters are interesting.

I like the idea. There's no Wave Dash or anything. Brawl is so slow, random tripping is stupid, and the tiers are retardedly unbalanced. Brawl Plus is an attempt to balance the game and speed it up. The level changes are for tourney tards, but I believe there's a switch to disable them.

I was fine with the differences between Brawl and Melee, except for the fucking tripping. What, did all of the characters get cerebral palsy between Melee and Brawl? Whoever thought up that new "feature" can go get raped by the devil in hell.

Also, I hope this game gets enough buzz to force Nintendo to release a legitimate Brawl 2.0
With Galaxy 2 and Wii Fit Plus already announced, Nintendo seems more willing than ever to release sequels on the same console

Hell, I'm surprised that they didn't include an option to turn off the tripping. Smash Bros. has usually been good about including options of that fashion.

It'd be funny if Ninty decided to make Smash like Street Fighter, and make upgrades every year.

See, this is why I love nerds. I'm not a huge fan of SSB, but it still makes me happy that people take the initiative to do things like this.

The tiers are even more broken in Melee, also, the patch adds wave dash again because it gives you the melee style air dodge.

It is a common misconception that the tiers are less balanced in Melee than Brawl. They are not. Brawl is RETARDEDLY broken. Meta Knight is damn near unstoppable. Dedede has an infinite chain throw. Fuck Brawl.

um.... there were two tiers in melee: fox tier, and marth tier. there was no point to playing anyone else. I see a little more diversity in brawl.
then again, I haven't played brawl in a very long time, maybe new techniques have been discovered that moved tiers around. what have I been missing?

wow thats crazy.
I must say though, it doesn't seem liek a very practical thing to do in anything other than a 1 on 1 fight, and who the hell plays those?

interesting. i had no idea. but, personally i dont know anyone who would play that way. cause thats just gay. and if you do get killed you come back invincible. i guess im basically saying i dont mind playing brawl. is it perfect? no. did they change too much from melee? in some respects yes, but it still doesnt make it boring. its still fun, as long as you play with people who arent total competitive assholes.

I'm not competitive, but the game is so different from Melee that it's frustrating. For instance, did you know that there is absolutely NO MOVE PRIORITY AT ALL in the game? This means that slow characters like Ganondorf are fucking useless, because faster characters can ALWAYS counter-hit.
Move priority isn't some highly technical game technique that only fighting game elitists appreciate; it's a fucking necessity. Move priority is what makes guys like Zangief and Potemkin actually useable.

i like brawl's playstyle more than melee's honestly, random tripping aside.
where can I read about these added characters? that's the REAL interesting part.

I dunno man. I've fucked up many a day with gannondorf. it's more about timing than priority. like, you have to know to come out with moves earlier than the opponent, instead of just out prioritizing them. it's not like they can stuff your wizard's foot with a random punch once you get it going.

and it depends on the skill level of the person you are playing against. i must admit that ganondorf was nerfed quite a bit.
