i wasn't sure where to post this at exactly so i just went here.

alright, so last night i went to sleep while running a virus scan on my computer and when i woke up it apparently had crashed sometime during the night. so, naturally, i restart it and find that "hal.dll is corrupted or missing" and it tells me to reinstall it, how do i do that if my computer won't even start up?

p.s. i'm on someone else's computer

I've always been curious about how one accomplishes that sort of thing too. I'm really hoping it doesn't involve a whole OS reinstall. That would suck major ass. Confused

I don't know the answer myself, but I'm guessing the guy that undoubtedly does will come along fairly shortly. GP's Interweb Technical Support will commence in five...four...three...two...

so, this is the first computer problem i thread i saw, so im necroing it.

anyhow, this is weird. i can visit the forums fine and post and whatnot, but when i click on the 'this shit pisses me off' thread, i get redirected to this:
Image

so, i immediately back out to the main forum page. i click on other links, and im fine. but when i go back to that same thread, i get that same message. so, i ran all my virus programs: spybot, ad-aware, AVG anti virus, malware bytes, and windows defender. it found some crap. i cleaned it out. i restart, i go back, and i get the same thing. anyone else getting this BS?

EDIT: now its happening on several threads, so im guessing its someones profile. maybe their sig or their avatar have some sort of malware. or maybe my computer is fucked.

It's Ghandi's sig. It contains the animated GIF at http://www.alexz.net/alexz1av100.gif.

It's nothing to worry about though, at least in this case. Chrome checks every site you visit as well as the originating sites of embedded content with a database of sites that have been reported for malware and displays the warning you see if there is a match. That means that somewhere on alexz.net there might be malware, but the animated GIF Ghandi uses should be safe. He should probably reupload it somewhere else though, so people using Chrome don't get to see the warning every time they visit a thread he posts in.

Fix:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_haldll_missing.htm

Personally I would just install Windows XP as an overlay install until Windows 7 is available in another month.
